Would anyone be willing to share the past DVLA Group 1 Visual Field Test Results and DVLA response.

Hi All,

I am a 50 year old male from England. I was recently advised by my consultant that I should report my Glaucoma to DVLA. Which I have done a few weeks ago and straight away got a letter from them to go and get a Group 1 Visual Field Test at Spec savers.

Yesterday was the day of the big test, very nervous and apprehensive. I had to do the test four time. (three times with Glasses and once without glasses). They said that they wouldn't be able share the results with me other then tell me that I did better with glasses and I have missed 6 points from 120 point (2 points in the center area and 4 points on the top left side perimeter).

I can see on google many different test charts but I would like to see a copy of a Group 1 Visual Field Test from Spec saver to understand if the field was tested at 120 deg or 160 deg.

I am so worried and my life will be turned upside down if DVLA revokes my driving license.

Thank you.

Hello,

You should be able to obtain a copy of your visual field test from Specsavers which you are entitled too. If they are unable to supply you with copies, you will be able to obtain them by emailing:

glaucomaqueries@dvla.gov.uk

VFT will be 120 degrees. Please find below a link to our leaflet on driving and glaucoma.

glaucoma.uk/wp-content/uplo...

If you do a search for DVLA visual field tests and click on images. They will show up.

Thank you Trish, I asked spec savers for a copy of my visual field but they said they are not allowed as this first test was paid for by DVLA.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot. We have had confirmation from the DVLA that everyone is entitles to copies of their VFT but many Specsavers argue the point.

That is rubbish I spoke to DVLA about this when told the same thing ,and they told me there was no reason Specsavers should not show you,it is your medical record and they have to show you by law if you request to see it,it is irrelevent who pays,if I paid for your test could I stop you from seeing it?

Hi there, You need to get a copy of your test results, either via link ti DVLA or go back to Specsavers. My experience is that Specsavers staff are not always well trained. Like you driving is crucial to my way of life and the wait is horrendous. Next time phone each branch that the DVLA say are nearby to make sure which machine they use and whether you can have a copy. Good luck. Jim

Thank you Oldie42 for your reply. Yes this was my first experience of spec savers plus I didnt do any research about the test on community groups. Now its just a waiting game, I don't want to get in touch with DVLA because they might get suspicions why I am ask for the results and start asking more questions.

I've always been able to get my results on the day from Specsavers. My understanding is that under the latest data protection legislation they have to give them to you. Companies and organisations aren't allowed to keep your data without your permission and you are always entitled to have a copy of what they have. But they shouldn't give an opinion on what the test results are. That's down to DVLA.

Hello Pley, thank you for your reply. I have called the Specsaver branch were i did the test and explained to them but they are adamant that they do not have to give me a copy of the visual field test. I wish I had asked to take a photo of the test with my mobile phone.

I forgot to ask for my printout of results when I attended Aberdeen Specsavers in February. Afterwards I phoned them and they said they couldn't provide them directly, but that I should go to their website and apply there. It was an easy process and only took a couple of days to get my results. Good luck

Thanks country girl for the tip. Did you select the email us option or your personal information option?

Copy of my DVLA test from Specsavers last year. The pencil scribbles are mine, showing the 20o area (circle).

The one point I missed was in the 70o area on the Left. This means my total VF was 150o (70o on L + 80o on R).

Hope this helps 😊
