I called the Dvla yesterday to make enquires about my licence.I was told not to drive again. That i have to reapply again.my licence will expire soon .i had 117 on my first visual field test, and 113 on the second one without no miss point at the centre.I also pass reading .Becauase i told the space spacers where I did the test I was coming again to get a new glasses. If they were suppose to go by the best result, 117 and 113 and 3rd one is also 113 were good result. The dvla is now telling me to buy a new glasses and reaply again.my insurance is still reading.is this what i am going to be doing yearly?who can i contact for my problems now?
Renewing my driving lience: I called the Dvla... - Glaucoma UK
Renewing my driving lience
Hi Tom63.
Do you mean that your licence had been revoked and you made an informal appeal which after viewing the results, the DVLA reversed their decision and asked you to reapply? If this is the case, this is the normal procedure as they can't renew your original revoked licence and a new application is needed.
If you only just passed and were classed as borderline, then you will be given a 1 yr medical licence and will have to sit the test at Specsavers again in 12 months time. Or you will be given a 3 yr medical licence,
I apply for renewal and this were my results 117 first test.113 second result and 114 in third attempt and with all this result I was told not to drive again. The Dvla is asking me to apply again that my driving licence has been revoke .That I should apply again with prove.I have send them a letter asking for my result. I do not know what else to do..Because I do not know the result the spacesaver summited. The first day I went i was told the optician was not on sit and I did some visual test that day, the time I went for the final result I was told to start all over again.so I do not know the result that was summited.
All I can add is that when you reapply for a license and go to Specsavers, make sure you get a copy of your test results. It is not just how many points you miss, but where your misses are!
For example missing an odd one near the perimeter of your vision is not a fail. But missing a cluster near the horizontal line and nearer the centre IS!
Good luck
Jim
You can get copies of your initial test from Specsavers. So it sounds as though DVLA have advised you to make an informal appeal against their decision. You will need to pay for another test at an optician of your choosing to resit the test. Once you receive your specsavers copies, take them along with you. The optometrist will be able to compare them against their results and tell you whether it is worth making an informal appeal or to accept the DVLA's findings and stop driving.
I suggest you download the criteria used for a field test from Specsavers site. The key elements are:
The centre, as mentioned in a previous reply.
The horizontal line- you must have '120' with a minimum of '50' on a side.
With the criteria, you will able to see why you failed - or that you should not have failed!
Pls can you send me your email. Let me forward the results to you.
I am reluctant to share my e-mail. Some further comments which may be useful.
Given the number of 'Hits', out of 120, you have possibly fallen foul of:
Too many false positives - when you click and there is nothing there. There is little leeway on this.
Too many false negatives - This is when you have correctly clicked on a faint 'spot' and then missed a bright 'spot' in the same place. I don't know what weight is given to this.
I hope you are successful in your next test.
Dear Tom63, I think you need to find out why the DVLA has not been able, so far, to renew your driving licence. Two important factors are: how well you see in the distance, and the binocular visual field. I note that 'new glasses' have been recommended. Are these for distance vision, ie., do you need them for driving? I agree with Trish_GlaucomaUK, that you should talk to the optometrist at Specsavers, and ask for his/her opinion re. the visual acuities, (ie., how well you see in the distance), and the original visual field results. It sounds as though it will be worthwhile re-applying for your driving licence, if that's what the DVLA are recommending. I hope you will be successful.
