Par Plana Vitrectomy Operation.

Hello I’m fairly new to this site and you all seem such a cohesive and friendly family.

I was diagnosed with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma in July of this year following a couple of subconjunctival haemorrhages in my left eye. It’s stable now with Dorzolamide/Timolol eyedrops and I visit the Eye Clinic regularly. They are wonderful.

On my last visit I was told that I would be eligible for a par plana vitrectomy which would correct the partially dislocated IOL that was implemented for cataract removal in 2017. The pseudoexfoliation syndrome that I have has causes this problem, giving me a wobbly lens and a glare. It’s a bit unnerving as it wobbles when I walk and makes my vision a bit blurry. I’m really looking forward to having this corrected as it makes one feel vulnerable a bit. However nervous at the same time.

I would welcome 🙏 any advice and knowledge from members who either have this eye complaint & thank you for reading my story. PS. I should add that I have Polymyalgia Rheumatica and take Prednisone 15 mg and on my 5 week of taking Methotrexate 10 mg . 🌺🙏

Hello autumnlass,

Sorry I do not know much about your future eye surgery, but glad your glaucoma is stable.

I notice you are on several medications and wonder if you always tell the medics. I often find that so many busy doctors focus on one speciality and almost ignore other diseases.

My G.P recently wanted me to take Amitriptyline for a trapped nerve but the contra indications seem vague even for open angle glaucoma, so I put up with the pain.

I had suspected Giant cell arteritis 2 years ago and 40mg steroids for two weeks seemed to have worsened my glaucoma.

Hopefully you will not have any of these side effects but I am always surprised by how many medications do effect this disease.

Do hope your surgery goes well,

Best wishes
