Flashing after cataract surgery

Has anyone had problems with flashing after cataract surgery. It is two months since I had both eyes done and I am still troubled with flashes especially in bright light. I have googled it and some articles say it can last up to 4 months to settled. I have always had problems with bright lights prior to surgery. Would appreciate any comments

Hello. It you have only been experiencing these flashes since having cataract surgery it would be a good idea to advise your consultant via the eye secretary as they would wish to know.

Thanks for reply. I have spoken to eye secretary and been too optician. He said my eyes look fine and she said wait another week and if they have not gone see the surgeon. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this

Hi Joan I had flashes for a couple of weeks and so phoned the oncall eye doctor. She thought it was due to my brain making sense of the changes and it would settle. Well it did however that’s me, so I would definitely try to speak to someone in the eye team to get further advice. I’m going for my post op appointment for my next cataract op on Friday and I will definitely ask about flashes! Let us know how you get on, take care x

Thanks for your reply. I’ve read it takes the brain a while to accept the new vision but it is now two months. It’s the bright sun that I’m having trouble with and changing from dark to light rooms. I’m wearing light tint sunglasses a lot. Must say my vision is wonderful long distance now. Swop one set of glasses for another. Will get back to surgeon in a week if it doesn’t improve

Totally agree about light, I wear sunglasses inside and out! Really hoping with the right eye cataract my vision will improve long distance, it’s gone downhill rapidly in the last year! Probably my age! Unfortunately with the left eye the change in lens made little difference, it’s a lazy eye, therefore there were no expectations that vision would improve which it hasn’t so fingers crossed it’s made the difference to pressure! What I noticed most dramatically was seeing colours so differently from my left eye, however my right is the dominant eye so the brain tends to listen it rather than my left eye! So I’m hoping not only will pressures be reduced but I will see bright cheerful colours! And of course distant vision for my right eye! So roll on Friday! Any concerns please give your eye clinic a ring talk it over with them x

I’m sure you will see really well with the right eye. The sharpness of vision is amazing and colours. Only problem I have is I notice how dirty and dusty the house is! Keep wanting to wash the paint work etc. Not easy as I have PMR. (Prednisone caused the cataracts to get worse). My pressures don’t seem any different but I have low pressure glaucoma. A bit disappointing though. Good luck on Friday. X
