Hi Little Cook, so with dizziness this would be to do with your vestibular sense.
Vestibular:
The vestibular sense is crucial for basic movement and motor development such as holding the head and body up against gravity; orientating the body in space; coordinating the head and hand actions; supporting muscle tone; postural responses including balance; and integrating both sides of the body and coordination.
The most important thing to consider with vestibular input is the speed and quality of the movements. Carrying something heavy or regulating the rhythm of the activity. E.g. slow rhythmic movements can be calming while faster movements can be alerting.
So my report says certain types of seating can provide vestibular input, ie sitting on a therapy ball whilst completing everyday activities, watching tv/computing/school work etc.
Completing tasks for yourself, encourage my son to get an item for himself (I do tend to do everything when experiencing symptoms that are dehabilitating in terms of movement).
Movement breaks are important too. These can be also be delivered in the form of "sensory circuits", short movement activities at regular intervals. It says along with staff support.
Vestibular input also includes rocking, swaying .... (will update this bit with more ideas).
Update: will create a separate post as the above suggestions are specific to my son, increasing movement etc, and pretty sure you fall into the other category and you require slow rhythmic movements that can be calming, as I am guessing you are very hesitant now in increasing movement/activities.
OT assessment/ therapy will be hugely beneficial to you.
Ps. Also remember displacement of ear fluid can cause vestibular issues. My friend is just experiencing this and waiting appt for sort.
In the light of common sense, and in view of Lady4's suggestions, do you think a rocking chair might help ? I have the type below .. not a looker, but you know the difference the minute you sit down.. though no longer available new.
a pendulum chair .. an upright rocker with a place for your feet.
My daughter has FND with seizures and how we are dealing with it is to do smaller things for less time and keep things as calm as possible. She also gets dizzy and walks with a stick and daren't venture out alone now. I myself have the dizzy issue and it's very frustrating. Mine is since having labyrinthitis years ago and is worse when I am stressed. I can totally empathise with how debilitating that is. Do things gently and book a Gp appointment to check out the dizziness, it could be a range of things from ear wax to benign postural vertigo like issues and separate from the FND itself.
