Hi I’m 44 years old, and was diagnosed with fnd in February 2023, after 5 long years of suffering. I had different scans, X-rays, all of which said I was ok. I really felt like I was going mad, then eventually after having to stop driving, I had to pay private to get seen cause I was sick of waiting on the nhs, and I had spare money. A neurologist asked me, if I had ever had a brain scan, they found my cerebellum was shrinking to on that, I went into hospital for 10 days and came out with a diagnosis of fnd, at least now I know finally.

Hi Lionelritchie,

One of the many definitions I've heard about what 'functional' means is 'a change in function, not structure'. So since the structure of your cerebellum (which seems to be the part of the brain that controls movement, amongst other things) has changed then I would question your FND diagnosis and ask them why they think your cerebellum has shrunk (eg is it as a result of menopause). Meanwhile the FND dx should not be made on the basis of normal test results alone so I would ask your practice manager or GP to liaise with the hospital to confirm the rationale for your current diagnosis. I hear you about the NHS wait times.

All best wishes.
