Baclofen?

My GP has offered me treatment with Baclofen…a muscle relaxer commonly used for MS. This would be to address widespread pain. It works with GABA receptors. Has any one tried this drug? If so, results?

Hi there,Yes, my wife Kim has used it for FND since 2011 and it definitely reduced spasms, but she still gets tremors, but not not as bad, but if she forgets to take it, she notices the difference.

She's on 10mg, twice daily and we hope it works for you as it has for Kim.

Warm regards.

Tony and Kim 👍

Thank you so very much for your reply Tony! I’m a bit of a baby about meds…so glad Baclofen may be a good possibility. Hope Kim continues to do well! ;)

Thank you so much.Fingers crossed it does the same for you and don't worry, as we're all the same when it comes to taking medication. me included.

Wishing you the very best.

Warmest wishes always.

Works well for spasms and muscle tension. I take 30 mg daily. Try it!

I have been taking it since 2017, and it was a miracle medication. Everything stopped for years. And it got reduced slowly, which i was so happy with and was again fine for another couple of year or two. Unfortunately, two years ago, my health started to decline and spasms returned more. I'm currently on 50mg daily. Going up has definitely reduced the spasms, but I have more bad days then good I can 100% say i notices the difference, when I forget to take it also.

I hope it works for you, my condition is different as I have a dystonia and everyone is different. My consultant was amazed it worked for me, as it did not worked for other patients.

Sounds like Baclofen is definitely worth a try. I have fibro, along with FND, and Doc thinks it will be helpful for both. Fingers crossed!

Hope you continue to improve Avamia!

Thanks for replying ;)

Hello Poseypink. I certainly have experience with Baclofen. I have Dystonia and it was given to me for spasms. It worked a little bit but the main problem I had with it was that it put a LOT of weight on me and I haven't been able to get it off.

It did the same to someone else on this forum.

However. I have to say that I am sensitive to medication and perhaps it wont do the same to you.

Best wishes and good luck.

Emily

That’s good to know, Emily 007. I had not read that as a side effect and I’m also med sensitive. Thanks!

No but would it be worth asking that question to the MS Community? Plus will the benefits outweigh any risks (just best to double check first).

That’s a good idea, Lady4. I don’t really have spasms, which this seems to help with, just widespread pain and trouble sleeping.

Hello I have FND and have been taking baclofen for about 4 years it helps with the muscle cramps and some tremors but I recently started taking lyrica due to unbearable pain in my hips and because I'm walking funny because of said hip pain my knees hurt since I've been taking lyrica the pain is down to a slight discomfort so depending on you and your doctors it might be something to look into

Thanks for your reply. I did it have a good reaction to Lyrica but glad that it has helped you! That’s part of the reason I’m leery of new meds and have been relying on lifestyle changes. :(
