Shielding Letter

Hi all

I have just received an email from the Shielding Patient List run by the NHS in conjuction with the Dept of Health and Social Care stating that I am classifed as extremely clinically vulnerable and should shield from now until 31st March. This is the first letter I have ever received despite the covid levels being high during the onset. I am baffled as the vaccine is now available and many have taken it and also the covid rates are dropping. I contacted my GP to confirm the letter was legitimate and they said it was although they were waiting for a copy to be sent to them.

Has anyone else received one?

I got one today too. I also have chronic fatigue syndrome. No idea what has changed so drastically that I now have to shield either. I also work in retail so I have been in a front facing customer serving role the entire time.

I work in a hospital and have been working all the way through also, so yes I dont know why all of a sudden. The inital part of the letter states:

We are writing to you because new research commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer has recently enabled us to identify people who may be at increased risk of becoming seriously unwell from coronavirus. This is because of a combination of their individual characteristics and their underlying health conditions.

So I am guessing now that they are checking on all people with underlying health conditions and weighing up their vulnerabilities .

Strange they didn't do this before.

It should definitely have been done sooner but as usual for the UK government they always seem to do things a fair bit later than they should have.

Wish I had been sent a shielding letter, as my GP has said that I wouldn't need one as I'm not at risk and dont fall into the category, even tho just having the common cold will knock me off my feet as my body wants to shut down. My GP is not supportive towards FND even tho I've deteriorated over the last 12 months and I'm hanging onto my job in the pharmacy by a thread. So I'm so glad for those who have received a letter as this is a positive step forward for FND

We did receive this letter but it was addressed to my husband due to his health condition not mine.

Hi All I received mine again but I’ve been getting them since last March? Even though work wanted me in at one point last year.. I wouldn’t go .... no windows in my office and all desks are together so no distance between?!

Hi there,I enquired about the shielding letter to my local practice, as my wife has had FND since 2011, and also Fibromyalgia, IBS, and Myopericarditis, but was told that the NHS may send one out, but they haven't, as they obviously think she's not severe enough.

It's interesting to see if she wil now receive one after what you've mentioned.

Many thanks.

Warmest wishes.

Tony and Kim 👍👍

No, I haven't receive a communication and I have FND, NEAD, Epilepsy, Fibromyalgia and Asthma. Thanks for telling me though. I will contact my Health Centre.

I haven’t had one I’m just wondering does it state it’s due to FND alone or other contributing factors?

Hope I don’t get one only just managed to start working again in December after 18months off took me 6 months to find a employer who would take a chance on me.

Keep safe everyone

Thanks Susie

The letter just states:

'a combination of their individual characteristics and their underlying health conditions'. Does not name any health conditions.

Oky doky thank you, keep safe 😺
