Local support

Having given up work 2 years ago in a rather stress full way I now have no life outside the house and have become rather isolated and my self confidence has taken a bashing. (It's taken me 3 weeks to pluck up the courage to join) I would like to know if there are any support groups ect local to me.

Bless you. Well done on taking the first step to write on here. Everyone is really friendly and shares which I have found incredibly helpful since my diagnosis 4 months ago.

I understand there are groups on Facebook if you're on it?

You could contact the guy on fnd dimensions - he's put me in touch with someone not too far away from me who I'm hopefully meeting up with soon. There's another site fnd action I think they show a group in Bristol.

Fibro wise there are probably other groups too.

I'm currently signed off and don't get out much but am trying when my body let's me. I actually saw someone the other day I've not seen for ages and she now told me she has chronic fatigue syndrome so she's going to pick me up for a coffee next week. I think talking with anyone with similar kinds of illnesses makes you feel less bonkers. I could never imagine someone feeling like this before I got ill - I was always so busy and full of energy so I don't think I could've computed being so physically exhausted and everything that comes with it.

Do see if you can find anything locally. I found the phonecall CBT I had recently helpful just for someone else to talk to.

Best wishes :)

Thanks for reply I never really had any friends I was always working or to worn out after 14 hours at work. I used to joke about retiring at 50 but then managed to do it at 49 now after 2 years it doesn't seem as much fun as I hoped. I am not on facebook have only just worked out how to switch on the pc some days I find it hard to read it just looks like lines of words that i can't seem to put together (hope that makes some kind of sense) so getting my head around facebook seems to much at the moment. Many thanks Richard.

It's fantastic that you have managed to join this group. I am based in Bristol and am part of the BristolFND group: if you are anywhere near us please get in touch (if you google BristolFND you should find us - it is possible to leave a message and we will get back to you). Otherwise I strongly recommend contacting FND dimensions as suggested before: they are trying to create a support network across the country, and so may know of other people near you who are trying to create a support network. I hope you find someone near you.
