I have had over 6 years of counselling, pain management and lots of holistic therapies. It helped me to deal with of of this, didn't give permanent improvements or heal this condition which has progressed. I am in the states and can't find a PT who does physio.
Hi. It seems that a multi-disciplinary program works better for some people. The counselling will help you deal with all of the psychological issues that this FND will throw at you. The psychiatrist will make sure that if some of these psychological issues need medication, or if you will be able to cope better by taking certain meds, then they will be available for you. There are some other mental health meds that are normally prescribed and/or monitored by a psychiatrist that can sometimes quite useful for limiting some symptoms including pain, even though they weren't designed for pain management.
I have been through 2 pain management clinics. The first one was a lot more helpful than the second one, in that the psychologists running it spent a lot of time helping us to understand the physical changes that occur inside the brain when you get any chronic condition, including pain and FND. Even though they never mentioned FND, every time they said 'pain', I converted that to 'pain and/or FND'. I found it to be really fascinating. Understanding helps a lot with accepting and managing the symptoms...which helps in reducing the stress and feedback loop of symptom -> pain -> stress -> more symptoms.
So, enjoy the pampering if you can get it. I find that they really help me personally in so many ways, whether or not they are directly focused on FND.
