Sister's husband had a tumor

Have any of you ever heard of surgery to remove a tumor in the bladder using a spinal? My sister's husband, in his 70s, in good health and never smoked, had surgery this past Monday. They put in a cath and had his stay in hospital overnight. The cath was removed. A day later his knee was swollen and hot and after speaking to medical professionals they suspect the swollen knee is gout! This all seems bizarre to me....anyone?

I was asked if i wanted a spinal for my bladder surgery.

Didn't like the sound of it.

Opted to be put under anesthesia.
