Help - Got an appointment but no reason?

Note: If there is a better place for this post let me know and I'll move it. I wasn't too sure. Thanks

So a few months ago I went to my GP with blood clots in my urine. I've had problems on and off for several years with incontinence and UTIs. He took a urine sample.

Urine sample came back clear, so was scheduled for a cystoscopy.

Had the cystoscopy, during which nothing abnormal was found, no tumors.

Two weeks ago I had a CT scan to try and figure out what has caused the blood.

Today I've received a letter booking me in to see a urology specialist at the end of October. Which I thought was pretty late (4 months away). There was no reason for the appointment except it asked to bring a urine sample.

I will call them to see if they can explain a bit more, but I assume if it was cancer I would have been booked in to see the specialist much sooner? I don't even know if cancer can be present without a tumor??

Thanks for everyone's help.

You're right - any sign of cancer and you're booked in on the fast track pathway to be seen within 2 weeks - here in the UK at least, although you haven't said where you are. You obviously need to find out the results of your CT scan for peace of mind, otherwise I would think that the 4 month appointment is simply a follow-up for monitoring purposes. Have you been in touch with your GP? The results of the CT scan should be sent in a follow-up letter to them at least.

Hi Celtic, I'm from UK. The person doing my Cystoscopy did say he would get a follow up appointment so I assume it's that then.

I will contact my GP and find out.

Thanks

How odd....i am 70 and been fighting bladder cancer since 2 operations in 2012 and many BCG treatments...if nothing found in the bladder inspection, I would too have wondered why the blood in urine. The CT scan just of bladder or kidneys too? I have a massive stone in left kidney but way too large to pass. Wonder if blood is due to passing a tiny stone, and i have passed 7 in my life- no fun- but some are smooth and some jagged. Some pass to the bladder and some get stuck. Hope you find out soon- i was ask Dr to fast track it. Best of Luck!

Thanks Joe,

The CT was for bladder and kidneys I think. I phoned yesterday but not received results yet, hopefully will be something like stones. Will phone back next week and will update here with results.

Had results back from CT, all seems fine although no cause of blood clots in urine. Good news though :) thanks for everyone's help
