Just been told I'm all clear and although I have been here before I still have chosen to have bladder removed before the cancer has a chance to come back in a more aggresive form. The 'bag for life' seems a better option to me.

Great news on the all clear, a big decision on the bag, but its better than the risk of the cancer returning, that security and reassurance alone would make it worth while.
My son had part of his bowel removed, and had a bag fitted when in his 20's, he too would tell people, 'I am alive and that's what counts, so its worth it' he did get used to it.
Let us all know when you go in for surgery, we will be supporting you Cx
Hi Roger,
have you been offered a bladder reconstruction by your consultant? I had the opperation done 2 years ago, as my cancer had spread to stage 3 &.1/2. After 3 to 5 months you will function normally. If you are given the opportunity take it, as your be cancer free, and body wise, there's no change.
Robert
Seeing the consultant on the 10th June. Not sure about the neobladder route as the recovery is a lot longer I've been told. As I'm now 65 this may not be an option offered. Glad to see you are obviously happy with your choice of surgery..
How long were you recovering for?
Roger
hi wishing you all the best my husband had bladder and prostate removed in 2014 he as tried lots of different bags seems ok now with medi link with extra stickers goes back on 23 june hes 70 on 21 june
Great news...yes I've got the bag for life too
Hi Roger well done for the all clear.I had a tumour removed last AUGUST and got the all clear after. On joining this site I am amazed in so many cases how often the bladder cancer returns. This has put me on tenterhooks and have convinced myself it will return in the future.I obviously haven't been through what you have but find it puzzling that you would remove your bladder now when you are Cancer free??It may not return again in the future and I would imagine having your bladder removed will be a big op and present big changes??My post is one of curiosity as one day I might be in the same situation as you.I wish you the very best of luck in the future and hope you remain Cancer free and the bladder removal goes well.Take care Roger
I didn't make the decision lightly for the choice of going for the bag now while healthy or wait until it returns - perhaps more severe and spread outside the bladder wall. Don't remember hearing anybody beeing cancer free for any long duration. Besides I would rather have the surgery at 65 than 75
Roger.
Hi Roger, good news that you are clear of that horrible disease.huge decision to go with the bag for life,I wish you all the best with that.i had aggressive cancer removed last September but have been struggling recently with bcg.all the best to you roger
Sorry to hear your problem with bcg. It worked for me for about 9 months then cancer returned. Then went down the chemotherapy route with metamyacin. That worked so now decided to have the bladder out option while it sleeps.
Keep trying the bcg as although it's a bit invasive it does work.
Good luck
Roger
I've just had Bladder removed on the 16th along with other parts feeling good so far good luck
I had a " bag for life" fitted 2 weeks ago. I had got fed up with the invasive checks . Have settled quite easily into a routine. Couple of "accidents" at night .but nothing too major. Looking forward to getting my life back.
Well done Louise. The bag for life club is something I personally haven't been keen to join but it seems the best club to join in our situation.
Good luck Louise
Roger
I agree with you because if you have radio and chemo and then find the Bladder needs to come out the risk is much greater
Just had my Bladder removed
