Second last session of chemo.

Today i had my second last session ,a large one  (5 hours) of

Gemcitabine and Cisplatin. Preparing for a 'leaky' night and staying awake all night, both side affects i have with these drugs. The more sessions i have the worse they seem to affect me,feeling quite ill tonight ,No vomiting but felt like it at one stage. The nurses are having a bit of trouble finding veins that havent been destroyed in my arms, the Gemcita bine  damages the vein lining apparently. Hope they heal after a while. Had a different Oncologist and im getting a different story from my normal one, she doesnt think a followup scan in necessary until 6 months later,my normal guy said he would probably ask for one a few weeks after i finish ,my preference ,even if its only for peace of mind . I will ask him again next week after my final dose, a small one of that nasty drug Gemcitibine. Got a big hug from my favourite nurse today...she is a cheeky young thing. lol. :)

I remember the chemo well the side effects do seem to get worse the more cycles you have, you have nearly finished though well done.  I would push for a scan in a few weeks to make you wait six months is awful.  I think sometimes they forget they are dealing with humans.

Rosie , As i have aged i have become more laid back about things, but even to me six months is a long time to wait .On the other side my wife who can be quite outspoken has scared a few of my doctors with her glare if she did not agree with them. ha ha poor bastards! I am fairly certain i will get my early scan. :)

How awful for you and I have been reading up a lot on chem so I may refuse if it is an option to me when I get them all Monday 9th may. I am 87 and now have a heart defect so what's the point to go through a rough time if I get side effects. I hope you will soon begin to feel better as to your side affects and surely it has to do some good along the way,but at my age I doubt if I could accept side effects, living on my own and sometimes feel like shutting myself away . I would give you a big hug cos I'm still a cheeky begger haha.Have to put a bit of humour in somewhere. Best of wishes to you young fellow

Sunshine my purpose for writing the piece was to inform people not dissuade them from using chemo,i would feel terrible if anything bad happened because of my writing, but still i do appreciate that we all make our own choices.Good Luck whatever you choose and i will hold you to that big hug. :)

No my dear you did not put me off at all as I have kept up in the medical side of things coming from a medical family and nursed 35 years .it won't be long now before I am offered options but I will let you know as to what I do decide as  it will be my choice at my age.i wouldn't mind having another turbt op to perhaps remove a bit more often tumour but we will see.xx
