I bought a manual system from Encore via Amazon initially, but now available directly via atcmedical.com/Aids_To_Dail.... Overall, that has worked fairly well for 5 years, albeit with replacing the pump (only) after pump performance deteriorated. The pump was available from the supplier at that link as a replacement part, for what I judged to be a reasonable price.
The medical group from which I’e gotten all of my care so far (MRI, biopsy, robot-assisted prostatectomy, treatment for ED, etc.) arranged for a session with a representative from Timm for their PTV and Osborn systems. She agreed that they would submit to my insurance the Osborn ErecAid Classic ($159), which appeared good enough for me. However, they ended up replying ~2 weeks later to tell me that the only device they would submit to insurance was the ~$299 system with battery-powered pump. I was especially irritated that their delay in replying to me was delaying start of its use, so I searched the web and Amazon and settled on the one described above. I submitted the expense to insurance; as I recall, its cost counted toward the deductible. Your insurance might pay for it.
Being fearful of loss of elasticity (which I believe is what made use of the VED somewhat painful the first week or so, and mindful that the VED is supposed to take the place of nocturnal erections, I am continuing to use the VED several times per week, including a day off after using TriMix.
Also, even with the manual pump, I’ve found that I can multi-task, shaving or flossing & brushing my teeth during VED therapy. That also helped alleviate my wife’s concern that I might be enjoying the VED therapy, which actually is drudgery, but worth it per my understanding.
Best wishes!
wit - MNFarmBoy has given a good first-person account of extended use of both a manual and electric pump.
As the issue for ED after surgery is primarily the restoration and preservation of the blood flow needed for an erection (assuming no major damage to nerve bundles), the concurrent use of a PDE5 drug (Viagra or Cialis) is also recommended - at least for min. of 60 days after surgery. I used Cialis for 60 days (free 30 day script from drug company + 30 days from a relative's friend) along with a manual pump. And while it took about a year, my ED resolved to within 90% of pre-surgery. Now 12 years later and I have not needed or used a pump (or pharma product) beyond that first year.
As we are all different and the complex nature of the physiology surrounding the prostate, extent of the cancer involvement in the nerve and blood vessels involved with erectile function, results vary widely - based on individual anatomy, surgeon skill, and extent (if any) of any cancer involvement outside the prostate. Anyone with persistent issues with ED might well consider a surgical implant or the use of an injectable agent (if something like Viagra is not effective).
Best of luck with whatever option(s) you choose.
