It will be presented this weekend. They claim that it is more specific than PSA screening and also can be done at home using supplied by mailed kits.

Will need to see the details. I am not sure it would have picked up me because they (Royal Marsden and ICR) could not pick out common genetics markers for me in a separate study a couple of years ago. I would like them to quantify the % which the saliva test did not pick out but the PSA did. It may well be that the saliva test will be best overall which would be great but we need to understand any particular segmentation. It sounds like a step forward.

Jf_ - There is also this new urine test that is available here in US. (Not sure about elsewhere - or if it is yet covered by insurance.) An at-home test would be a real game-changer and give us patients control over testing frequency - and, thus, self-monitoring of PSA trend.

Here is a Harvard Health article on the new blood test:

New urine test may help some men with elevated PSA avoid biopsy - Results of this new test can help men avoid unnecessary procedures, by Charlie Schmidt, Harvard Health Publishing, May 6, 2024

And a link to the company that developed and manufactures it:

Next Generation of Prostate Cancer Risk Screening -MyProstateScore 2.0, Lynx Dx

Note that Lynx Dx founder, Arul M. Chinnaiyan, MD, PhD, was awarded the 2022 Sjöberg Prize for his discovery of TMPRSS2:ERG, the fusion gene responsible for more than half of all prostate cancer cases.

Also look for an upcoming post on the 2023 update to the book, Patrick Walsh's Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer, and a super-informative long (3 3/4 hr) Peter Attia podcast with Dr. Ed Schaeffer who was instrumental in that update. Essential reading and listening for all PCa patients and their families.
