Being Thankful---Year 4

Greetings FPC members:

Each year, I try and post at holiday times of reasons to be thankful regarding Pca developments, and I am thankful for so many things that I have, but we can all be thankful for :

1) NCI and it's support of 320 clinical trials( a 5% increase from last year) for prostate cancer including the trials of cancer drugs like RRX-001 (phase 2 and 3) for neuroendocrine cancers, VERU-111 for PCa (Phase 3-VERACITY study), ARV-110 (Phase 2), Lu-PSMA-617 , and the new vaccine trials like ADXS PSA. ADXS 504, RV001 (Phase-IIb to conclude in 1st half 2022), and more ...and the recent successes like Darolutamide, Apalutamide, SBRT for Oligometastatic PCa, and the new best scan F18-DFCPyl...

2) Dept of Defense and it's continued financial support into prostate cancer research

3) Centers of excellence in treating patients and providing top quality care like MD Anderson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Cedar Sinai, Mayo Clinic, City of Hope, Cleveland Clinic and many others, and for the researchers that devote their lives to curing this disease...

4) Continued research into drugs like cyclic peptoids, bromodomain inhibitors-ZEN 3694, NEO2734, CCS 1477, radiopharmaceuticals like Lu-177 and AC-225 and other theranostics, Bi-specific T cell engagers, CAR-T , Mosaic pea virus, and other medicines which can slow down this beast, and maybe one day, a cure...

5) Organizations that raise money for research and/or provide support to patients like the American Cancer Society, Prostate Cancer Foundation, ZERO, and HU-- which provides this forum, and others

6) For the individuals who participate in clinical trials that risk their lives and bodies so Oncologists can learn more about prostate cancer and treating it. A special salute to our courage...

7) Individuals on this forum who share their knowledge and experience and provide support to others...some with humor, some with love, some with stories of hope...

8) For the individuals who lost their lives fighting this disease....the fathers, husbands, brothers, sons, cousins that took treatments and paved the way to this point...

9) For the men and women who support or supported men with this disease and understand the pain and suffering this disease causes...

10) For the warriors out there that just refuse to quit fighting this beast...

Let's all be thankful.....

ON A PERSONAL NOTE:

11) For my continued health, and the knowledge that I have gained and shared with my followers that continue to follow me, and message.

12) For the great people I have met on these forums and the information we have shared...

13) For the vacation that I have enjoyed over the last year--Grateful to God and the results --end of anemia, more energy, etc...

14) For my loving wife and family that support me...

Happy Holidays...

Many reasons to be thankful for all of us... so many developments in the making... my prediction--PCa will be a chronic disease within 4 years...2025... when I started, ACS said 15% live 5 years....that has since doubled... keep watching the science...

Dear Fish. Happy Thanksgiving to you from OZ. As always thank you for the uplifting post. We particularly love your prediction. May it be so. 😊 G&J

You are most welcome. Looks like things are opening up again in Oz. I believe my prediction is spot on. When I started, ACS from 2010-2015 had 15% 5 year survival for APC, but there was only abiraterone, but 2015-2020 was 30%, and now with newer drugs and several breakthrough therapies in later stage development. Who knows?? 2025 seems a good bet...Happy Holidays to you both and all of yours...

Happy Thanksgiving, amigo. We do have a lot to be thankful for, and updating the annual post lets me see how much has changed in a year... When I started, Axumin was the best scan available and one had to have a PSA of 2 or more... now, Pylarify is available and solid detection at a PSA of 0.5... all in 4 years... no apalutamide or darolutamide approval back then.... amazing what the science has accomplished..... Take care and be well....

God bless you... With all the new drugs under development, it is easier to be positive. They've come a long way in 10 years....Abiraterone approved in 2011. The next 10 will bring much more... Happy Holidays to you and yours....

A great post Dave and excellent summary of all the milestones to be thankful for along the way. A great reminder that we are not alone on this journey and there have been amazing developments along the way and more to come no doubt. So fortunate too that there are people like you who so willingly share knowledge, insight and most importantly encouraging words when the going gets tough. Keep reminding us that the science is coming....

Hi Marnie,

Thanks for the appreciation reply... I'll try and keep them coming, but think I have the flu or CoVid, so completing this was a bit of a challenge... It'll be a few days for my next post... We can not lose hope !!!

Take care and be well...

Temp 101.1, but at least the sore throat is gone... Margaret went to get a test from the hospital. I will have an answer soon enough.... Still up and moving... I'll take good care, but Lady M will see that I get close monitoring...

I'm sure she will take good care of you...personalised medical care...that you should be so lucky! You make sure you don't overdo things either. Hope test clear and maybe a booster is in order.

Señor Pescado,

Beautiful, obviously heartfelt post, Amigo. You are right that, regardless of current health status, all who read here have much to be thankful for. Your detailed list pretty well covers the territory for the PCa patient community, their families & friends, and, for that matter, pretty much everyone else who cares about the small and large communities they are necessarily a part of.

We all benefit by your generous contributions to our "Science is Coming" knowledgebase. Thanks for that and for the perfect post for this time of the year. While it seems much of society at this time doesn't want to recognize it, most here continue to know that we are MUCH stronger together than we can ever possibly be apart.

Wishing you continued good health throughout the holidays and year ahead - and, as always, Be Safe and Stay Well,

Cheers to you and yours,

Captain K9 terror
