WHOAH!! I'M ON A ROLLING BALL.....

I've started something that i'm not sure I really should have. No it's not illegal!! I'm tentatively finding out about working(YES, WORKING) from home! After much deliberation and mulling over, I have finally decided that I must make my own destiny with this 'thing' in my body. I miss teaching. I miss the buzz of working with children's energy and enthusiam. I miss planning the next step...I miss loads of the good stuff... BUT, and here's the thing, I don't miss the hours of paper work, the constant physical effort it takes to teach at your best, the' on demand' responses to staff, pupils and anyone else who might see me! Actually having read that, I'm quite sad at how much my life has changed...Anyway, I decided I still have lots to offer and a genuine love for teaching, so I'm taking the initial steps towards becoming a home tutor. There, I've said it. It's out ini public!!! I just hope I succeed and manage the 'thing' and work. Crikey I just had a worrying thought -what do I do if the dreaded fibro fog mists over me....Well it's too late now, the ball is rolling... S x

Hi Summer

Congrats on taking the first step!

Don't worry about the fog. I teach (mainly 1 to 1) and if I can't remember the answer to a question, I just ask the student to answer it themselves! Or I ask them to tell me more about why they are asking the question. Or other similar tactics. You'll soon come up with ones that work for you. And usually, in their hesitant attempts to answer me, they jog my memory, and its all OK - we're back on track with no-one any the wiser!

You do need to be organised though, making notes throughout the session, and have a system for marking in the margin - for example something you've promised them for next time, or what you've set them for homework etc. I go the bargain shop and buy stacks of cheap notebooks, so I have one for each student, and that way I don't confuse them with each other!

Good luck. With your kind of enthusiasm I'm sure it will go well.

Thanks for the encouragement! i just hope it works out. I'm just going to take my time and get organised at a pace I can manage. That's going to be one of the best things about working from home, as the pace of life in mainstream is just not 'do-able' for this fibromite!! It would be good to stay in touch. Ty, S x

Hi honey, well done the first step is hard but i totally understand as today was my first day in a .new job after three years. I miss the banter with collegues and the feeling of contrabuting financially as well as getting out of the house. Yes it will be hard but stick with it, you may find you get a bit better because your focus will be on the job and not just to your fibro.

Mentally it's a boost,

Good luck and stay strong xxxx

Tis good to hear someone being positive. I've found that vit B12 injections help with the fog so ask your doc to check your levels and see if you need them. Good luck with this step forward xx Liz

Well done Summer, that's good to hear. I hope it all goes well for you, please let us know how it all goes.

Wishing you all the very best with your new venture!
