I think it depends who did it. I went private and requested a copy which they gave me on a DVD. No harm in asking.

Hi ,

Usually the NHS ask you to make an official request to see your medical records.

There is information on the internet link below about how to do this and reasons why some people request to see their notes.

nhs.uk/chq/pages/1309.aspx?...

Hope this helps

Emma

I think you may have to pay??? But worth asking honey i know i would at least like to see my pictures when i see the specialist. I was given my last ones but that was in Germany and i didn't even ask.

if it's been done fairly recently and you just want to view it they don't usually charge, but under the data protection act they usually have a minimum charge of £10 up to a maximum if £50. I have just paid out £50 for my GP records and £40 for hospital ones, all X-rays and scans they have put a disc for me.

I believe that you have to put all requests in writing or a special form from the hops/gp's website requesting access to your medical records, you tell them exactly what you need and they usually invoice you. However the NHS can take longer than the stipulated 40 days so if you need them for an appeal etc act quickly. the NHS state their 40 days start after they have received your request, your invoiced payment and permission from the consultant to release the documents. however if it were a private MRI then they should have given you a copy. hope that helps xx

Hi Emma, it wasn't a problem with the GP notes but as I have moved several times it seems some are missing, but wouldn't have amounted to much. They were very helpful

But the hospital records are all from one hospital….. 33 years worth! I am trying now to see if they will consider a refund because they misled me, or a letter was lost in the post, about the 'over 40 days issue'. apparently the law was changed to allow hospitals where you have seen by several doctors for each of them to give their consent. But for me there shouldn't really have been a problem and I felt they held it up unnecessarily.

I also had some from Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, they were the cheapest and the quickest, maybe because they were held in the 'vaults' lol

You dont need to have a reason to see your records, but by telling them why, of course will help if you need something quickly.

They do have the right to withhold some notes though, so be aware of that. If they think it could be detrimental to your health, they can say no, but as a rule I doubt they would.

If you check out the NHS Website under Access to Health Records all info should be there. Some hospital's websites actually have a section with a pro-forma Form to download and complete, but you have to sign the request and give proof of ID. They usually then check the records and then send you an invoice for payment before they will do anything else.

Hope that helps xx

I have copies of all of mine and i also had phone calls pretty much soon after when i had the neck one last year by the phsio and then got the results, but if they do not give you it then request it .

You have to ask the person who organised the MRI to give you copy as it is not always the Dr that does it.
