Over a period of months I went from 300mg to 25mg under supervision of the doctor. I was fine to start with then bam!! I took an overdose I was so down.

I am now on 375mg, the highest you can take and have been told I will have to stay on them for the rest of my life. I have taken AD's for over 20 years now I hate being on them but apparently I can't manage without them.

I wish you the best of luck but remember you must do it gradually.

I have been on them for four years now. Have tried to cut back on them to only end up goin up on a higher dose. I'm now on 300mg daily but goin through a real low period. I'm seein my GP on Fri about this& fibro related stuff. When I tried to cut down the side effect were horrendous. I would feel very sick, headaches, severe sweating, shaking, palpatations & very nervous & extreme bad form with bad anger. I'm told I'll be on them all my life. They say they are not addictive but how can this be if I cant come off them. I also cant sleep with or without them.

Hugs

Thanks I also have bouts of sever sweating followed by being so cold this mornign i had heating on in car followed by air conditioning. lol. Still feeling sick but vertigo worse today, probably shouldn't be driving, but you have to do these things. On the plus side lost 2lb this week at weigh in :) so just need to carry on and hope it subsides soon.

It can be difficult and I think the key is very slowly waiting until you stabalise at each dose reduction before going down another dose. You didn't say if you were coming off them with your GP or a psychiatrist. My GP took me off them far too quickly to begin with and I had terrible problems which ended up with me in hospital. After that the dose reduction was very slow. I am still on the lowest dose of 37.5 mgs and we've agreed I'll stay there for now. I found out that a lot of people suffer similar symptoms as you've described on the NHS patient forum patient.co.uk you have to search for the drug name. (Hope I'm allowed to give that website as it is the official NHS patient forum.) Good luck.

Thanks Whippet_lover I will have a look there. Phychiatrist taking me off was on 150 wnt up to 225 for only 4 weeks and have come off at 150 for 2 weeks and 75 for 2 weeks and then nothing. Took some Prochlorperazine this morning as I have these for vertigo but only use them when its really bad, but looking at tese they give same withdrawal symptoms so probably won't take anymore.
