Go back to your GP, you may be able to change your meds and you certainly need something for the piles.

I have also in the past tried Oat bran and Fibrogel

movicol can help too but maybe a change if meds is called for xxx

I've had the same problem and now have anal fissures which are extremely painful and you want to avoid them if at all possible. I have piles too and am awaiting an appointment with a colorectal surgeon in August . You certainly have my empathy .

I've tried Laxido as mentioned above but found it tipped me the " other way " lol.

I now have to take 25ml of lactulose syrup twice a day as well as eating granary (not just wholemeal ) bread, porridge , and 5 portions of fruit and veg a day just to be able to go !

Go back and see your GP because there are lots of different treatments available and one size doesn't fit all. It's not safe to rely on over the counter laxatives long term as this can cause more problems than it solves , so input from your doctor is always a good idea.

You could try psyllium husk powder, it works for me. Best wishes to you.

Lactulose is excellent, it was recommended to, and seems to work as and when I need it, x

Gosh! this was 2 years ago... Thank you for all your replies. I tried the Fybrogel, that made sick. I ened up using EXLAX chocolate, it was the best thing ever. I have even tried the suppositories with no luck. Since then I have had the Fissures done, had a really bad time, got infection was on LIDOCAIN for a while until it healed. I have realised that when I eat a lot of carbs, this is when I become uncomfortable. So I need to ensure I have a virtually carb free diet. Thank you all again for your support.
