The truth of what it is like for you on your worst days.

Hi to get mobility is very hard to be truthful. It took me 18mths of battling through medicals and tribunals and I am wheelchair bound with 8 conditions one including fibro! Your healh HAS to fit into the law not the other way around. You also have to be unable to walk unaided for mobility. hugs xx

Hi lash,

I have acquired some information about what the assessors are told to say at the beginning of your assessment. Apparently they are supposed to tell you that when you answer questions you are to tell them what whatever it is, is like most of the time.

Most of the time, apparently, is more than 183 days a year. So if you work on what it's like 3.5 days or more out of every seven, you're there.

Personally, I believe if, in your head, you add 'on your worst day' to every question before you answer it, they will get a more accurate picture.

hope that helps, happy hugs, kate :)

sorry, forgot to have add that they have to take into consideration the consequences of actions. So if you walking around a supermarket today results in you not being able to get off the sofa tomorrow, that counts. Also, the thing about walking is, can you walk ........metres means, can you do it without being in severe discomfort, not pain, just discomfort and they usually don't tell you that either.

more happy hugs, kate :)

What is discomfort? Is this not pain?

Discomfort to me is when you MAY think about taking a paracetamol for it.

PAIN is when it hurts to sit, stand, lay down, try and walk or even cough.

You are just in pain every movement you make IS pain.

In fact the state I have been in for 40 bloody long years

Hope that helps hugs Butterfly xx

To get the lower rate mobility allowance, you have to prove that you need help to get to places you are unfamiliar with.

For the higher rate - you have to prove that you are "unable to walk" or "virtually unable to walk".

I got my Blue Badge with the help of my GP and I was also assessed at home to be registered as physically disabled with my local county council. I believe these two things helped me to get my mobility allowance bumped up to the higher rate.

If you do qualify for higher rate mobility, you also qualify for a Motability car.

However, a new allowance called PIP is (Personal Independence Payment?), is to be introduced starting from next year and it could be all change, which is very worrying for many of us.
