Mammograms!

Hi, I've never had one but have been called for one. Knowing how I've been with smears and other 'routine medical procedures' which others find uncomfortable and I find screaming agony, I wonder what other people's experiences are?

Hello Kirby. I understand how you are a bit anxious about having a mammogram. We girls go through it don't we with smear tests etc. I've had a smear test and two mammograms lately and honestly there is nothing to worry about. The women who perform these mammograms are very sensitive to how we may be feeling and it's all carried out with the utmost discretion and minimal discomfort. It's all over in seconds and is such a relief. These tests are so worth it to make sure we are ok. I don't think anyone likes them, but after you've had the first one and know what it's all about you won't worry at all about the next one. I thought i'd found a lump and I was so relieved when my mammogram was clear. You won't need to scream believe me. If you are anxious or are having a "tender" day, tell the lady doing the test and she will help you through it all. My pain threshold can be quite sensitive, but it was fine, it really was. It's so worth it. Gentle hugs. :)

Agree LibbyDe, I've had three and they are just a teeny bit uncomfortable but the nurses are really nice and it is all over in seconds.

Nothing to worry about at all. And I'm a big girl! :)

Snap I've got my first one on the 26th and I am worried as my chest can be quite painfull. Like most people say though apparently its more uncomfortable than painful. So lets hope we both are ok. When is yours? Will be thinking of you,

All the best

Sharon xx

Thanks for your replies. I must say that they said smears were 'uncomfortable' but no, screaming out agony, the last one I couldn't complete. Same with taking blood pressure with new inflatable arms, screaming out agony, had to get them to stop, so I know my pain experiences are different to others. A friend of mine didn't know what I was talking about re smears and then she had one, and boy, do you know it.

I've had a mammogram recently and it was a bit uncomfortable. (I'm a big girl, too!!) I've also recently had a bowel screening test. It came through the post unexpectedly, apparently you can have these tests when you reach a certain age. (I'm 60) I did it and sent it back. I got the result yesterday and thankfully it's ok. I must admit I was dreading the letter coming. Don't worry about your mammogram, its over in seconds. xx
