Hi I had to finish work last year. I had to go on universal credit, I also recieve PIP. Because fibromyalgia is classed as a disability there is a disability payment you can also receive. You have to be assessed for this. I can't remember what it is called. When I went to claim universal credit they explained everything I was entitled to. Hope this was helpful for you xx

Hi I didn’t realise fibromyalgia was classed as a disability.

I didn't but it is. If you finish working make an appointment with universal credit and they will sort everything out for you xx

Hi, I have been a fibro sufferer for 12yrs now, 3yrs ago I was then diagnosed with PMR as well. With meds, I was managing as a carer in the community. Then a dose of Covid, a DVT, cellulitus and stress fracture took me right off my feet. The steroids I was on for PMR then helped me put on 6 stone while I was resting and recuperating putting huge strain on my already very arthritic knees which were awaiting replacement. Unfortunately I could not continue working and had to go on the sick. As I was part-time for a year and a half (caring) after working over 40yrs full-time I was not entitled to ESA as apparently I hadn't paid enough national insurance contributions in the last year, this was because I wasn't earning enough. A phone call to the DWP informed me I could not claim but to try for PIP which I got. This however is not enough to live on and does not pay the bills. So, I have been left housebound living off my savings, waiting, waiting waiting. I am desperate to get my first knee done and am hoping I will be able to manage to go back to work. The moral of this story.... speak to Citizens Advice and don't struggle, do it as soon as you can.

Hello Geordie Chick,

The best thing for you to do is get in touch with a benefit provider. You can try the Citizens Advice, click the link for someone here in the post below or you could also try a charity called 'Turn to us' Any one of these should be able to help you as move on to the next steps of your illness. I was on long term sick and then ended up giving up work because I couldn't travel to my workplace. My husband gave up his job to be my full time carer and I remember going through claiming benefits for the first time was a very daunting process. Neither I or my husband had had to claim any type of benefit in the past so it was challenging but we got help, we found an adviser and they are really good and very helpful. I'm here if you ever want to chat. I may not answer straight away, but I am here. Sending big gentle hugs your way xoxo 🤗

hi, I had to leave my job last year too after being on long term sick. Have you applied for esa and ssp? This has been a great help for me as well as universal credit. It’s very worrying time and a disheartening process knowing that you aren’t able to work anymore. But we have to accept and adjust to new times and just take each day as it comes and deal with it as best as we can. Take care x

When sick pay ends normally esa will replace that. You can apply for pip and universal credit .
