I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia following a Rhumatologist appt.
June 2021 was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism + Hashimoto’s. Although, I have been on Levothyroxine since 2021 this has not helped with my exhaustion and other symptoms.
My question is has anyone here been misdiagnosed with Hypothyroidism when it actually is Fibromyalgia.
I am concerned that I have been misdiagnosed when really it is Fibromyalgia.
Any advice would be appreciated

Hypothyroidism will show on a blood test, fibro will not. It is however possible to have both. I have the double whammy of diabetes and fibro and a few other ailments to add to the party. It is often difficult to work out what symptom relates to which illness.
I will speak to my GP as soon as I can get an appt. I still have the same symptoms as when they started me on levothyroxine and this has not improved at all. I will update the post after my GP appt.
Can I suggest you also join the HU thyroid forum, its a busy, friendly and very knowledgeable group. If you are feeling symptoms its possible you are on too low a dose of Levo. Or your vitamins and minerals are too low.
I'm assuming the Hashi's was diagnosed with raised antibodies, and you cant mistake those. You can have both Fibro and hypo. I do.
I have 4 autoimmune and then told as I knew something else was going on in the body that I could not work out and was told by a rheumatologist professor it was fibro. So you can have AI & fibro and as already mentioned fibro does not show in blood tests. So on top of all the meds I have I then had to start pregabalin to help sleep and nerve pain.
Hello and welcome, a very helpful reply from Dinkie. I hope your GP can throw some light on this for you, let us know how you get on , in the meantime take care xx
Hi there revitalise, I was diagnosed with Fibro first, Then Hypothyroidism,
Since then have collected illness after illness, The advice I would offer is you really do have to find a way of coping, They both have a lot of symptoms that cross over, Keep warm, Be as comfy as you can be and learn how to pace yourself, There are plenty of others on here that will give you plenty of replies and advice, You are never alone, (unless you want to be😉 )
Hope you find some peace from some of your worries
Hi, all these autoimmune diseases are so difficult to manage. I have lupus and fybromyalgia. Dr’s would never have tested me for lupus had I not kept on and it turns out I was right. My point is get dr’s to test for lupus too because if you are taking HRT I have found it made my lupus worse. Maybe worth reading up on lupus and talking longer to your GP. Unfortunately no one dr is an expert in autoimmune diseases.
I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Raynauds, Graves Disease, Sjogrens Syndrome. My consultant says they classify as the individual conditions. They are all auto immune conditions in their own right. Hope that clarifies.
Good afternoon revitalise, hope you’re coping alright today. I too have hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia and unfortunately some symptoms do overlap, especially the exhaustion. It is unlikely that you would be misdiagnosed with hypothyroidism because it would be clear from a thyroid function test what your levels are. Fibromyalgia adds additional symptoms on top of the problems caused by the thyroid. So now we have to cope with widespread pain and brain fog to go with our exhaustion and slow metabolism. With trial and error you will find ways to cope that suit you. It’s a learning curve though, best wishes x
I have both hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia. Thyroid problems can’t be misdiagnosed. You should have regular blood tests for thyroid problems as maybe your medication may need upping. I also have IBS and research shows they can all be interlinked. Wishing you good health
