I have no money to buy any recording device and I wouldn't know how to record on my phone. I'm gunner have a lot of sleep less nights till this is over.😭

If you ask to have it recorded, they will possibly say that you need to rearrange the date (that's what hubby was told). My phone has a built in voice recorder (do you have family or friends who can check if your phone has one, and show you how to use it) - so hubby had his phone on speaker and I recorded on mine

Hubby's assessment was yesterday and took over 2 hours, but she was very detailed and prompted him for further information a few times.

As Hazel has said, you will need to ask beforehand if your assessment can be recorded, & this may delay your assessment as not all assessors will agree to this.

Now, other than for your own use, there's little point in getting your assessment recorded, the DWP won't likely have the equipment to listen to this, &, if you needed to proceed with a Tribunal, they would need a transcript sending beforehand, which comes at a cost.

Far better to concentrate on your actual phone assessment. If you haven't given a couple of recent, detailed examples as to the difficulty you face stating when it happened, why, what exactly happened, did anyone see this, & were there any consequences in your PIP claim form, then take the opportunity to do so with your assessment. This will bring to life exactly how your disability affects you.

If you can't do something 'reliably' then say so. This means can you do any applicable activity/descriptor safely, to an acceptable standard, as often as it would be reasonable to expect, or does it take you longer than someone who doesn't have your disability? If not, then you cannot be seen to be able to do an activity at that level. Now is the time to mention any pain/fatigue in attempting/doing an activity.

Hoping you've kept your a copy of your claim form, read through this beforehand. Also refresh your memory as to the activities that are looked at with PIP: cambridgeshire.gov.uk/asset...

You can do this!

I've got a copy of my form, I'll start to go through it slowly so I can get things in my head that I need to remember,my husband will be with me, so hopefully he can prompt me if I'm struggling with the old brain fog. X

You are allowed by law to record anyone at anytime as long as it's for your own use for notes . It would be illegal to pass on the recording to anyone else. Which is not what you would do it for anyway. It would be for the purpose of remembering what was asked and what was said ( personal note taking) . The information commissioner's office who govern data protection in the UK would confirm that you can record it for your own use. You would only be recording it in case you were miss quoted .

Good luck .

Hi. I have had a pip assessment which is done by a company used by the DWP not sure uf you can request it to be recorded but my pip was refused and asked for a copy of the report. There was a few inconsistencies such as they said my son takes me out for outings. I don't have a son or go for outings. They also said how I manage my painick attacks when I drive. I don't have panick attacks or drive any longer due to medication. I sent a complaint and all the evidence went to an independent medical adviser who said that the report should bit have been sent to the DWP. They concluded that I was entitled to pip. Its a very stressful process but keeep going. Make sure you explain your condition on your worst days. Good luck x

The Benefits and Work website has all the information needed on recording assessments. Might be worth having a look as they have loads of helpful information on there.

hi get your husband to take notes if you are unable to record it.

My nieces partner accompanied her to her assessment and took detailed notes, she was refused PIP, after reading report he called DWP ( she had given permission for him to act for her) and questioned everything on report as there was not one accurate statement on it. Same day someone from DWP called for more info and went through form again. Within 2 weeks she got decision and received higher rate of care and mobility.

Good luck

I spoke to them last week about it, and yes, it would involve rearranging the appointment. She mentioned it’s ok to record on another device, ie a phone. But you must make sure you let the assessor know you are recording , at the start, I didn’t want the stress of rearranging so am working out how to record on a spare phone x
