Hey guys
Any advice on pain killers to take or any sort of therapy to relief pain n stiffness in top of back neck and shoulders
Morning, I think a good soak in the bath helps me relax muscles in that area, and hot water bottle for back and wheat bag for shoulders too, I use bio freeze rub in gel from boots/Amazon . Xx
Best approach I have found is remedial massage - takes a bit of time to find the right masseuse - but it really helps with the worst of it.
At times of crisis (yes I have had pain crisis's that are primarily suboccipital) it's really hard to sort this area. All I can say is ice packs, massage and strong pain killers (which I can't take unfortunately). I probably should have gone to ER on those occasions - my therapist's have wanted to even drive me straight there. - but in my experience waiting for hours in ER only to be offered pain killers that I can't take is worse than doing nothing.
Not sure what else I can suggest but massage often to reduce the likelihood of it getting that bad is my main goal.
Swimming helps my neck, back and shoulder pain, but I wouldn't advice doing any 'head out of the water swimming' bc that could hurt your neck more.
Heated wheat bags, massage, TENs machine and acupuncture. These have all helped me with temporary relief. I also do nerve glide exercises regularly which were prescribed by a physio for shortened nerves and helps with referred pain. Nerve glide exercise examples can be found using a Google search.
My wife has big pain in the neck and shoulders.even zapain doesn't help much.what gives some relief is cold and biofeeze from chemists will give some relief.other cold gels may help.will be talking to the Dr on Monday.viv thomas

Small movements work really well for me throughout the day, just a few at a time.
Head turns to over each shoulder then back to front.
Head tilts, ear to shoulder back to upright.
Front & back shoulder rolls.
Heat packs & long hot water bottle.
Magnesium spray & Epsom salts baths.
Hope some of this helps.
