Painful neck from electric fan draught

Just thought I'd post my latest experience to spare others a similar pain.🙂 A couple of nights ago I put an electric fan on my bedside table to try and help me sleep in this horrid heat. About lunchtime yesterday I started with a horrible pain in side of my neck, which has just got worse and worse. I couldn't think what had caused it, but since realised its the draught from the fan that has tightened my muscles up. 😳 it never ceases to amaze me how the smallest action can cause folk with fibro so much pain. I hope this may prevent someone else doing the same, and hang on in there till weekend guys, hopefully getting cooler by then.xx

Hi, sorry to hear you have hurt your neck. I think anyone no matter if they had fibro or not could end up with a rye neck if falling to sleep with such a draugh blowing on them to be honest.

I hope it feels better soon. I personally couldn't sleep with a fan on in the same room never mind next to my bed. The noise alone would drive me bonkers.

We have had one on in the living room for days. It can really blow cold I have to keep switching it off. And the relief when that whiring sounds stops is bliss 🙄

Feel better soon xx

Hope your neck eases off - and you can find a new location for your fan. I hate anything blowing directly on me - hubby got one of those neck fans they are advertising, and I can't use it because it blowing on me neck /face feels painful

I'm same in car - air vents at my side are usually of or on lowest setting when it's warm

Great article thanks, I wish I'd seen it earlier! It seems most people knew about this already on here, but I'm still learning all the smaller details of what makes fibro such fun.🙄

Hi like I said, getting a sore stiff neck after sleeping in a draugh is not a fibro issue. Sitting or sleeping so close to a fan blowing on you would cause anyone problems whether they have fibro or not. I hope its feeling better today xx

Yes I think a lot of people have had their fans on , I’m told it’s not good for you but in extreme heat I’ve had to have mine on, but yes too close how it can efffect a person, it’s cooler today 😀x

I can't sit anywhere under/near air con . Just cripples me . People have no idea the effect that these things have to fibro sufferers. Just going on a cafe for a coffee etc is a major thing. Walking round to find a table that's not near one is a expedition !

I tried to rent the space under the air conditioning In Lidl but they just laughed. The cramp in the neck explains a lot, I have had the fan on for about 4 days now and my brain has a cramp. That is why I'm so stupid.

This happened to me too! Also despite closed eyes they dried up and I needed to use my Viscotears drops! Cooler today thank goodness!

Hi I totally know what you mean re fans. I have one in my living room and started to notice after a while my legs started to ache. I realised it’s the cold air coming off the fan starting all my pains up. I think it’s good to share our finds with each other.😀

Thank you, I thought so too, only trying to be helpful.😊

Totally understand! I get horrific neck pains from just a few moments in front of a fan. The wind outside is painful too. I always have to wear high necked collars or a scarf around my neck to avoid the pain! Hope yours will improve soon!

Can you put the fan on the other side of the room, so it just stirs the air? I get stiff too if I have a fan too near the bed, it chills the muscles too much. Mine is about 8 feet away and only on Medium.

Cheers, Midori
