Changing Minds about Fibromyalgia

Currently, fibromyalgia is viewed as a condition and not a disease or not a legitimate disease. Because of these assumptions, many disadvantages have accrued. Looking at fibromyalgia with a somewhat different lens, we found that muscle pressure may be a surprising cause of pain in fibromyalgia. The following link helps unlock some of the mystery surrounding causation.

Its a nice theory but it is just that. What about the epigenetics cytokine theory and il6 and il8? What about the mitochondria or ATP theory? Or what about the SFN approach?

Its all good and well hanging your hat on one theory but unless it is replicated and substantiated by multisite trials to test it to destruction then its a theory only.

sory, meant to add that I also do not agree with the disease / condition characterisation but would concede that clearer aeitology would help patients.

I truly believe that this is something to do with the brain and amplified pain signals hence none of the pain meds work well not for me they really do need to do more research .

The best current theory does support this but still more to learn.

Fibromayalgia goes far back has in the bible and when Job was around .There is a scripture about it .

Like attributing it Florence Nightingale the Job reference is just a post event attribution so could have been something else. But the research into this condition started in the 1600s after Guilliame de Baillou defined rheumatism.

Hi there MrsMouseSJ , could you add more information to your question. Who is "we" on its own is not making much sense I'm afraid thank you.

Think it relates to this statement "we found that muscle pressure may be a surprising cause of pain"

I also found the use of we strange.

Thanks for the clarification Des 👍

That's exactly it. Thanks for clarifying desquinn.

I think the OP is one of the researchers who wrote the original paper. So I presume “we” is the 4 authors: jrheum.org/content/48/4/598

Ah thank you, I did read it when first posted and noted the similarities in the names. But still don't understand the post just "We" I can't see the connection of that one word with the OP. Or maybe I'm having a fog moment lol

The OP is describing what he and his colleagues found in the study they conducted (assuming my earlier comment is correct). So it’s kind of short for saying: “I did a study with 3 colleagues and we found...blah...”

Hope that helps! x

Hi LoneEra, The We I was refering to was not by the OP but MrsMousesj but it seems Des Quinns reply was what they were referring to. I just thought with a little more explanation all could have been made a little easier for everyone to see what they had been referring to. But alls well 😁😘

LoneEra, How do you know he is one of the authors? His deliberately promoting the article in 3 different posts had me think otherwise.

Well, I’m inferring that from his username. Unless the OP likes to copy the names of PhD grads of course! Who knows 🙂

This is part of the reason we like researchers to contact us first.

I was in a lot of pain by watching the video of the pressure test administration. Hopefully a less invasive test will become available soon.

I’ve thought that the whole way through, but how do we get the right amount of oxygen back? There wasn’t any answers for treatment x
