Hi, yes, it’s meant to be less sedative than amitryptyline. I was diagnosed with FMS at 18 & advised to go on the ami, but I didn’t want to. I didn’t take anything until I was in my 30s & became very unwell with what I now know is a form of vasculitis. The nortryptyline helps with sleep & takes away the morning aches so it becomes more tolerable. I haven’t noticed any changes in terms of feeling depressed but you might want to check out your vitamin D levels & take 1000 iu daily, potentially more as this helps with inflammatory processes in the body & also can help if you are feeling depressed. Hope that helps.

Also meant to say, I was prescribed 50 mg, going up in 10s u til you get used to it - I didn’t notice much change at 10 but it’s effective for me at 20mg at night 30mg if pain levels are higher. I also know a colleague who ups their dose at the weekend but takes 30mg in the week for example. So that means you’re in more control of the side effects. Best wishes

Hi there, I was prescribed it some years ago. It was prescribed because all the other pain killers I had tried made me sleepy. This one had a similar affect but I guess that's just because these things seem to affect me this way. It certainly didn't make me depressed. I would try it because it might help you and if it doesn't you can do what I did and come off it. Sometimes it is all about trial and error but I'm sure you will find something that suits you. Good luck

Hello, I’ve been taking just 20mg of Nortriptyline now for a few years. I have never had any problems on them what’s so ever. Help me sleep which was what I was suffering from. Wake up feeling fine, not groggy and plenty of energy for the day. I took Amitriptyline to begin with and used to wake up groggy and generally feeling rubbish. Hope this helps!

I found Nortriptyline helpful at night, as it aids sleep, too. I'm now on 50mg a night and haven't had any side effects at all. I do take it early in the evening, though - not last thing at night - and this means that I don't feel dopey or hung-over in the morning at all. I hope it works for you and you're soon feeling much better.

I have been on Nortriptyline for 3 years now with no side effects. I have been prescribed many different medications since I was diagnosed 12 years ago including amitriptyline, which all had worrying side effects. I was told that Nortriptyline had the fewest side effects of medications currently prescribed for Fibromyalgia. Hope it works for you too.

Hi. Oh you poor thing - a little one to take care of as well. For me, amytriptline did nothing except make me groggy for hours in the morning. Pain relief zero. Sorry to be a bearer of negative information. Please stay positive. Sending love x

I take low dose of Nortriptyline.I have Citalopram additionally.(allergic Anytip)After 2/3 years yes it helps but since Fibromyalgia waxes & wanes difficult to say if my pain is better controlled with it as lots has happened in that time. If a low dose is offered suggest you try it then you can up it should drug be effective?

I take Nortiptyline (4 pills, 50mg each) at bed time. It makes me tired if I take it in the morning. I started on it before most of my current medications (Tramadol, Meloxicam, Lyrica, etc.) I do okay with pain unless the weather is changing or if I've done too much (working on my daughter's car yesterday, fixing it and now paying for it in pain). Medications have to be adjusted every now and then to get the correct mix for each person. So what works for me might not help you.

We all respond to medication differently, But I found Nortriptyline better than Amytriptyline. It didn't make me so groggy.

Hi I was on amitriptyline for a few weeks but felt very drowsy I am now on Nortriptyline 2 20mg in the evening to help control nerve pain in my legs at night. At first I felt drowsy but I got used to them and it as helped a lot for nighttime pain.

Hi, I've been on Nortriptyline for at least six years. Initially to control muscle spasms in my back. I prefer these to amitriptyline which made me very drowsy. I am on 20mg and the only side effect I have is the occasional dry mouth. I didn't realise how much pain I was in until I felt the relief from Nortriptyline. It also enabled me to carry on working. I hope these give you the same benefit as I have had. I was officially diagnosed with Fibromyalgia only a couple of months ago but I have had it for a number of years.
