Hi,

I have just been diagnosed with fibro literally 2 weeks ago!!!

Iā€™m really struggling to come to terms with it.... it has given me a name for a lot of the problems that I am facing but I just canā€™t get over it. Iā€™m 19 and this feels like a massive hurdle to overcome.

Any help or advise would be much appreciated x

Hey and welcome ā˜€ļø It is scary being diagnosed with a chronic illness at any age, but especially when youā€™re so young.

But the good news is that having a diagnosis actually enables you to learn how to make things better for yourself - with a combination of meds, movement, mindfulness and a few other bits and bobs!

This is a good place to start reading about self help measures: fibroguide.med.umich.edu

The pacing module will be key!

Iā€™ll reply tomorrow with a few more targeted ideas for you x

Morning, I can quite understand how difficult it must be at such a young age too digest your recent diagnosis, the forum is a good place to read post s ,we all try to support each other with empathy and sometimes some friendly advice along the way. I hope you have a supportive doctor that can guide you through this, some people use medication to help with pain, trial s and errors along the way , but getting some kind of relief can help us through our days. Not too sure if you work ? but if you can pace your body during the day a lot of us find this a big help as over doing things can cause more pain and fatigue, just getting the right balance for yourself , I found if close familyā€™s/friends have an understanding of this condition they can be supportive , even if itā€™s a chat over coffee , or a friendly phone call, a little empathy goes along way, take things day by day and give yourself time to settle into a routine that helps you xx

Thank you so much, thatā€™s very reassuring and just so nice to see that people understand and know what it can be like. I am really trying to challenge myself whilst looking after myself which is difficult to adjust to! I havenā€™t met with the GP yet Iā€™m not even sure where to begin! Again thank you so much for your reply x
