Hi. Are you on any pain meds at all?
Yes....But they are not great at all!!
So I would be really grateful if you can give me any advice what you would recommend?
I'm on co_codamol 30/500 I sometimes take Diclofenac I just feel I could really do with more advice on any other pain relief? Just so low!! Really appreciate any advice,
Thank you so much, and thank you for getting back to me!!
Nicola
Ok, that’s helpful to know as it lets me answer a bit better. First of all, I think you need to have a chat with your GP about trying some different meds.
Diclofenac is usually used for people with inflammation, which isn’t a fibro symptom. And co-codamol isn’t always highly effective for fibro either (depends on the person). If your GP isn’t used to working with fibro patients, you could ask for a referral to a rheumatologist. A physiotherapy referral might also be useful.
As for other types of pain relief, have you tried:
- Gentle exercise and stretches
- A TENS machine
- Epsom salt baths
- Sleep hygiene measures
- An acupressure mat
- Mindfulness
Please feel feee to ask any questions! x
Would you mind if we could exchange numbers, it would be easier for me as I'm Dislexyic ha?
Would be so nice to talk to someone that can help me?
Thank you so much,
Nicola.

Hi Nicola
You may find FMA UK's national helpline useful - you can call and talk to one of our volunteers 0300 999 3333 Mon-Thur 10-4
Our volunteers can answer questions you have, or give details on information relating to fibromyalgia
Medications that are generally prescribed for fibromyalgia are this that work on neuropathic/nerve pain and alter pain signals ... Amitriptyline, duloxetine, gabapentin or pregabalin are commonly prescribed. Also tramadol (sometimes prescribed along with paracetamol).
Pacing, exercise/activity, mindfulness, meditation, holistic therapies, heat or cold, distraction (IE doing a hobby, watching TV/film etc) are all ways you can help to manage symptoms
If you would prefer to talk about this over the phone, please pm me your number and I can give you a call during the week when I'm working.
Hi Hazel, do you suffer with fibro or any type of chronic pain? I do not in any way want to come across negatively towards you. The list of meds you’ve advised are common but also full of opioids.
Hi there sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I’ve tried everything I can thunk of and the only thing that helps me is tapentadol but I’m not eligible for this any more due to my postcode!! X see if you can get access to this maybe? Just friendly advice I’m not a doctor x
Hiya I’ve not had much help with my pain I was on ibuprofen and co codamol but co codamol made me tired like I’ve got a massive hangover so then then said try codeine and paracetamol which to me is the same as co codamol eventually I have now got a patch which I’ve had for a week and so far have found the pain has been bearable and seems better x
Are you getting any pain relief? Are they giving you any sort of antidepressants?? I went through so many different meds in the beginning For both pain and depression. If something isn’t working, making you feel weird, different please get straight back to docs for something else. Some meds I tried once and that was enough not to carry on with them. You know your mind and body and you are always in control. There is a very long list of pain meds, no 2 people will be on the same concoction. I got my meds as per a ‘pain clinic’ they have another list which the docs haven’t got access to. Keep me posted. Good luck 🍀
The best advice for the moment, is to ask your Doctor to be referred to a Pain Specialist.they can usually help.
