Unable to cry

[foxglove]

I have very dry eyes and since having laser treatment after cataract ops. I have been unable to cry. Any advice? I'd love a good weep!

have you been checked for sjogren's especially if you have a dry mouth as well.

No but don't really have dry mouth

as others have suggested the likes of artificial tears which is what people with sjogren's would use to help them with their dry eyes. But possibly still worth talking to the GP about it.

I had this when I was first diagnosed with blepharitis, my eyes were crusty every morning and I couldn't cry any tears at all. I get drops to use daily to keep them moist, was told to use a heat mask on my eyes twice daily and then wash with baby shampoo. It took a few months but eventually I can now cry! Although my eyes are still very dry, and they swell up massively when I do. The mask is great, got it on amazon, 30 seconds in the microwave and leave it on for 10 minutes. I became lazy though and stopped it and using the drops, and of course it came back. Ughh! 🙄

Thanks will try Amazon, have used warm flannel which is soothing but NO tears!

Have you discussed artificial tears with your GP. He might be able to help. x

My neighbour had cataracts removed month ago,I have been slicing up cucumber and she is using them as eye pads it seems to be relieving it,

Long time ago. Aparrently not cataract op, but the laser treatment afterwards So optician says . It's not really bothersome just annoying. I don't think it is necessary to cry

Try a hot flannel over your eyes in the morning for a few mins & then its artificial tears from the GP.

Did you suffer dry eyes before surgery??

Yes but was recomended eye drops from optician which helped and I WAS able to cry at that time

Oh. Then maybe you have dry eye disease that is worsened by the ops.

Sounds like prescription drops are what you need.

Contact the cataract surgeon and explain what you’ve told me. RX drops could be written by him then refilled as needed.

I have always been easily moved to tears.

When I turned 50 and tried to cry all I got was stabbing pain in my tear ducts.

My ENT ( ears nose throat doctor) tested me and i have Sjogrens.

He ordered me to use lubricating eye drops. There are prescription drops that last longer.

I also take Evoxac capsules that make my body produce moisture.

It would be to your advantage to return to the doctor that did your cataracts as this is his specialty and he should know about this problem and find a solution or cure for you.

Best wishes for a cure to cry an ocean of tears as needed.

I was diagnosed with “dry eye syndrome” several years ago. Thought to be ageing combined with laser eye surgery 20 years ago. I have Hylo Forte drops on prescription that really help.

Thanks for reply, I am using hycosan drops which help with dryness. It's the not being able to cry that's upsetting me
