Fibromyalgia??

Hi everyone,

After experiencing many symptoms similar to that of fibromyalgia, I’m sat here wondering whether or not I should mention this to my doctor.

I’ve been having pain almost everywhere for the past few months, horrible widespread joint pain, lower/upper back pain, arm pain, shoulder, chest pain, stomach pain, foot pain, jaw pain! Every sort of pain. Not to mention the off balance and dizziness and I have just become completely forgetful. I’ve had no answers from the doctors who like to blame anxiety instead.

My friend suffers from fibromyalgia and I have seen her on her worst days where she cannot even move and I cannot even begin to imagine what she and everyone else here goes through. However, it just seems to be getting worse for me and I just want to feel like myself again.

I’ve heard of these trigger points around the body and I have tried ones around my knees and arm and a slight pressure on them causes me an aching pain lasting around 5 mins before it eases off. Is this how it feels when pressure is applied to the trigger points? My mum is also extremely sensitive to pain although she has not been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, she says even lying down on the WIRE of her earphones causes her pain.

Please share your stories with me as I will be more than happy to listen and any insight you may have on my situation will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi Simrran18.

Sorry to hear about your pain. There's nothing like a lot of pain and weird symptoms to make you feel anxious, not the other way round!

I've a lot to share, if you click on me, my posts should appear (I'm not sure what the rules for linking to other threads are) but I've recovered from my pain and depression, it was a physical problem. The pains were real.

It’s really hard to tell what the cause is isn’t it - the joy of fibromyalgia! - but I’ve found just reading up on the symptoms (and other sufferers experiences on this forum ) and about the side effects of any meds you might be taking gives a good summation of what’s happening mostly. Also been told anxiety causes pain, the pain isn’t ‘real ‘ though the experience of it is (wtf?? It’s still pain) and the most useful bit is to stretch but gently as far as the pain limit allows - which probably looks like you aren’t doing anything from the outside - though it feels like mega steps to the Fibro sufferer. Stretching has helped me a lot and remember to engage the core muscles to support the back instead of slouching (but, again, you wouldn’t be able to tell from the outside...) etc Ps you might also be extra sensitive to pain anyway - it’s a common thing amongst the community b4 they had Fibro symptoms, it seems.
