Wondered if anyone here recommends seeing a chiropractor to help with muscle pain?

Hi Hezzy - yes I use chiropractor but really for osteoarthritis together with muscle pain. If you just have muscle pain then perhaps a sports massage would be better. I would advise you to use one within a chiropractor practice and only one who understands the problems associated with fibro. Mine understands and will ask me exactly what my pain scale is before he starts and the machine for deep massage is graded and I tell him when to stop! Check their qualifications carefully as not all are qualified and check their reviews too. If you do not find any relief within a few sessions then it's probably not working for you. That's the problem with fibro - it's different for all of us and what works for one may not work for another. I know others on here have not found any relief from chiropractor appointments. Hope you find some relief soon.

Thank you Dinkie for the reply. I do find if the muscles have been massaged I hurt more and takes a while for it to calm down. I’m not sure I could bare a massage! I’ve used a massage machine before and was left in more agony! I think perhaps for now I will give it a miss. Your reply has been very helpful in my disicion .

I use chiropractor & massage therapy I go once a week and it does help , but if I miss a week going,, it’s hard to function .

You must have good communication and be 100% honest with the chiro & massage therapist. After a while you know what works for you, don’t be afraid to tell them.

Thank you Notame, I think for now it’s perhaps not for me. I find even a massage painful.

I use an osteopath, but she uses very gentle manipulation and pressure, not the ‘leg round the neck, cracking the joints stuff!’. They all work differently within their qualifications, it’s worth going to an established practise where you can read the bio’s on each person. I do find it beneficial but you usually have to wait 3/4 days after before you reap the benefits and of course it’s not cheap! If I could afford it once a week I would go, but I’ve learned to manage the pain in other ways. Hot water bottles under each shoulder every night etc etc

Sports massage is also good again at an established physio practise where they know their stuff and you can explain your condition and know they will understand.

Good luck x

Thank you for your reply. Looks like I need someone with gentle hands. I have a Ciropractor in mind so may just have a talk with them first.

Definitely worth giving it a go, but just be aware that you sometimes feel a little worse for a few days and then you start to feel better. The first time I went I thought ‘what a waste of money’, then gradually over a few days felt much better. So be patient is my best advice xx
