Hi I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia and FND in January but have been suffering for four years not, I have episodes where my legs don’t function like walking though water but they are heavy and they just buckle on me to, pain is more in my back and legs but I do get it in other places to, then have the tiredness all the time, I’ve been told to do gradual exercise to strength me up but every time I try doing something my body give in, how do you exercise? And cope with the “normal” things? And family mine think I am being to negative or lazy when I say I can’t or struggle to do things, I try and explain but it seems like they just don’t understand it at all. Sorry for my long post I’m really frustrated with my body as I use to be working, doing exercise and doing things with my daughter but it seems to effect everything I hate having to say to her I’m sorry but we can’t do this today coz I’m not well enough or too tired. Thank you xx

Hi, I’m sorry to hear of your struggles, I too have the problem with my legs often giving way and not functioning for some time. The first time this happend was very scary but now I tend to understand what triggers these episodes, often it is because I have tried to do too much and just need to rest. Swimming has helped but too much can have the opposite effect too so it is difficult but it’s about finding a balance and learning as you go what your body can handle because everyone is different so it is hard to suggest what works and doesn’t work. We’re all here to help though even if it is just having someone to listen to you vent your frustrations, it helps having someone who understands what your going through. I have been told it does get easier though! So there’s hope for all of us :) x

Welcome to the FMAUK Community amandapit it ! :)

I am sure you'll find this community a helpful and supportive place to be ! :) There's lots of posts to read and many lovely members to talk to about Fibro.

Please can I provide you with the FMAUK website which has a wealth of information about Fibromyalgia which may be of help to you

fmauk.org

It is challenging living with Fibromyalgia to say the least, it's hard to get out of a push and crash cycles that we end up in but sometimes pacing an do less to do more is the way to go. Work out what you can do daily and do the same each day until you feel able to do another minute or half a minute. It is difficult due to family commitments and keeping a home I must admit. FMA UK also sell an exercise DVD that was made by a third party especially for those with Fibromyalgia if you're interested it is on their website via link above. Plus lots of people find hydrotherapy or water based exercise easier plus therapeutic.

As a newbie, please can I mention that members prefer to answer posts that are locked to this community only. If you wish to do this, here's a link that explains how to do it;

healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

I'm sure others will add their top tips about how to pace and exercise too

All the best

Emma :)
