Feeling very down at the moment !all the strange sensations and fatigue has brought my fitness to a hault!apart from walking with the dog! I am gaining weight very quickly and I’m not sure if just from stopping the gym a couple times a week or to do with whatever the hells going on! Can anyone give any advice on if I should avoid any sort of weight training because I’m so close to just fighting the pain before I wait for diagnosis because the weight is getting me really down! Or should I avoid that kind of thing as will not know if pains are from working out or a possible illness???

Weight gain and fitness questions whilst waiting for diagnosis
It is so difficult when you have been used to being active and your body used to burning calories. Walking is good but unless you can really stretch out it doesn't burn any calories. I too used to be very active and now a short walk, light gardening and some physio exercises are all I can manage. Do you do stretching exercises as it might help with the pain and still keep your muscles flexible. Many have found that they can exercise easier and with less strain if the exercises are water based. If you push yourself too hard when you have fibro it can actually have a negative effect. I wouldn't personally do anything too strenuous until younger your diagnosis.
Are you on anything like Gabapentin or Pregablin as they are notorious for weight gain.?
Let us know when you get your diagnosis.x
Thankyou for your reply!i have hypothroidism hashimotos have been on levothyroxine for nearly 3 years but last year I was at my fitest in September powerlifting and got so small but strong was 9 1/2 stone and now I’m nearly 12 stone ! So for me that’s a lot of weight as I’m average 10 1/2 if I’m not working out !i do t really care how much I weigh but it more what I look like !my belly almost looks swollen like I’m pregnant and I’m not!my legs have got big to but my arms seem to have not changed?
Domi1041 I think you,ve diagnosed your own problem- you have thyroid issues which are notorious for weight gain hun. Ask you gp to put you intouch with a dietician who can advise you properley.
The thing is I’ve been diagnosed for 3years with under active thyroid, and I have always struggled to lose weight when I’m wanting to be super fit and had to work really hard to get there, but never been this big and bloated when I’ve not been going to the gym !im wondering if fluid retention or something is a side effect of some auto immune diseases??as autoimmune hepatitis is possibly on the cards too as my anti nuclear and anti smooth muscle tissue were positive and hep2 abnormal wondering could that cause swelling or fluid in stomach???
Same here strangely enough as my arms have out on very little weight but my legs have and my belly and stomach could do with quit a few inches shaving off. Strangely my actual weight has only changed by about 3 lbs from when I was very active but I look about 3/4 stone heavier. As my old GP put it muscle weighs heavier than slack! Such a conundrum as of course the more we weigh the more strain we out on our joints and muscles 😨x
I put on a considerable amount of weight due to not being able to do so much. I used to have my own horse and compete with my dog but had to give it all up. I took the bull by the horns in June and joined Slimming world and have managed to lose 2.5 stone without any effort. To be honest I didn't believe it was possible but it worked for me. I do try and get out daily even if I only walk round the garden for some fresh air. I am investigating a local gym as apparently they have an instructor there who is used to helping those with mobility issues. I couldn't bear to go to one full of lycra clad beauties ! Hope you find something that works for you.
