Pregablin is much better in my opinion and I didn't get any nasty side effects like with gabapentin

Hi,

I have fibro, but also have quite severe osteoarthritis, I'm at present waiting for a THR. The pain I have been in recently has been horrendous. I'm on gabapentin, but also on 30/500 paracetamol and codeine and just recently doctor has given me butran patches (like morphine). I started on 5 Mcg and now up to 10Mcg. Doctor said I could increase further until the pain is manageable. These seem to be working for me at the moment.

Good luck

Judi

Hi savanarian2008 im sorry your in pain my friend and having to deal with your disabled son, it must be extremely difficult for you. A lot of people can't get on with Gabapentin and as Hidden mentions, Pregablin is another drug that is given to help with the nerve pain symptoms of fibro. It works in a similar way & you may get on with this better. Amitriptyline are very good, they are obviously not a pain killer but they relax your muscles, which stops the spasms, that give you a lot of pain. They also help you to stay asleep when you do go to sleep, they do also help with moods because most people with chronic pain conditions, do tend to get very irritable and depressed, understandably.

They are best taken early evening, they then relax you for the evening and tend to be out of your system, (well the effects of them,) by the morning & you won't feel so groggy. I take mine at 7pm although I don't sleep til 1 or 2am. I quite often take a very small dose in the morning if I'm in a lot of pain.

It may help you to have a slow release pain patch or Codiene as others have mentioned. It may also benefit you to be refered to a pain clinic.

I do hope you can get something to give you relief soon & I hope you manage to get some rest & enjoy your evening.

Luv Jan xx

Hi

I always find discussing medication very difficult.

With Fibro especially, what works wonders for one person could make another seriously ill.

Pregabalin is taken very successfully by a number of our members.

But if you are prone to depression or low mood I personally would say steer well clear of this drug.

It made me feel very dangerously low and took me to a deep dark place.

I have chatted with other members on the forum about this too so I know it hasn't just happened to me.

I hadn't been on it that long but even though I weaned very slowly off it I had horrendous withdrawl symptoms for weeks & weeks afterwards.

It is highly likely that if you go to your GP asking for a certain drug that they will not be overly pleased.

Your GP should know what to suggest.

I do feel your pain literally. I've had Fibro & ME for 36 years and some days the pain is beyond bearable.

Wishing you a peaceful night.

Lu xx
