hi all

just wanted to know would I be able to apply for esa as I suffer from fibromyalgia, cervical spondylosis, chronic migraines and depression. I had been suffering 14yrs before I got diagnosed ,I applied for pip twice and on the second occasion I only just about got the standard rate for pip but I know friends who have managed to get enhanced for both what am I doing wrong.

ESA is not condition related as such. It is based on how those conditions impact your ability to work or seek work. Each of us is affected by the same condition in different ways. You can still work if you receive PIP. If you are going to claim for ESA it is often advised to keep a diary and note down how your condition effects your ability to perform tasks. My advice would be to talk to your local disability rights group and ask them to help you fill in the form. Remember that recent changes to ESA mean that unless you are in the support group you will only get the same amount of money as those on JSA.

Hi inayah08

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted for you below a link to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

I agree completely with Badbessie as these days the disability benefits are all about how your disability affects your day-to-day life. FMA UK does have a benefit adviser and I have pasted you a link about her contact details (Janet) below:

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi.

Your not doing anything wrong, I think it depends on how you are and look on the day.

You see I was on higher rate for both, but when pip cam in I was reassessed.

Now only get standered rate. The care bit was explained to me like well now you have had your bath out and a walk in shower put in, at our own expense I might add. I could now shower myself with a aid.

Thant was the reason given. And the other one was well you can drive your car.

2 points off getting both higher rate.

As for esa yes you can make a claim but who knows if you will get it, not sure but I think you have to have given work up because of fibromyalgia or an illness.

I get it but contribute rate as I worked most of my life from 15/58 all through having kids as well.

Try it you have nothing to lose, every thing to gain .

Best of luck

Glynis

More than likely. I was put into the working group for 2 years as it was felt that I might be able to work again in due course. Of course, as soon as my boyfriend moved in, the payment went to a big fat zero as the govt assumes that a partner will share his money (wish someone had told my ex husband that!).

I totally agree with you there I have had a very sad life at the age of 14 I had tb was on meds for 2yrs I weighed 3st docs didn't think I would make it but I did, Then it was nose bleeds every day for 3yrs then migraines and having had a traumatic child birth my fybro and migraines took over I never got to enjoy quality time with my kids coz of pain, The only memory my kids have of me is in bed in pain all the way through my mum supported me she was my best friend 2yrs ago I lost her to cancer and my husband found it hard to help me so he deserted me I now have depression and anxiety on top of fybro and migraines,
