First op post diagnosis

So Wednesday is fast approaching and I'm booked in for an exploratory day surgery. Nervous about it but concerned how things will be post op as its my first since I've had fibro or at least since diagnosis as I can't guarantee for defo how long I've had (can any of us?)

I've had a couple of gynae investigations done in day clinic and it took me a few days to recover from the anaesthetic even though it was a light one. I was tired, as expected, but otherwise ok. That was me, you may be different. It's probably just a question of wait and see I'm afraid. I have to say the day surgery staff at my local hospital were brilliant - I was very nervous when I went in but it wore off quickly because everyone was so nice.

Can I ask what,s being "explored Kat? Have you told the surgeon in detail how fibro affects you staying in one position post op/ During your op the affects shouldn,t be serious as most of the body goes into like paralysis and so the fibro shouldn,t be affected, its after you need to be up and about soonest make sue you tell them this and it is passed onto recovery staff to move and turn you, the popular trolleys they have today in hospitals take you from anaesthetic, to theatre to recovery to a ward if you are not a day case; and they lift head foot and sides to alter your position.. POST OP pain is dealt with 100% these days and you will have your own theatre recovery nurse all the time now. Good Luck come back tell us if they find anything and how you are feeling..

I have uterine fibroids and a problem with prolonged heavy bleeding 😢. All being well I'll be up and about in the afternoon and home too, well dads but I'll be taking it easy due to bleeding 😱.

My gynae is taking a biopsy too as I had a few suspicious smears last year and have had complications ever since I started at 10 so she wants to check everything even checking my chances of having a baby with my new partner

A word from the wise. Take your own pads to the hospital. The ones they gave me were totally useless!!

My day case surgery was all spent on the same bed/trolley. The anaesthetist will discuss pain relief with you and the doctor is on hand if you need post op medication. I'm an old hand at surgical procedures. So anything else you want to know feel free to ask.

I'm fussy so would take my own anyways, plus I have to carry them at the mo because of the obvious.

I'm useless at asking for pain relief but I think I'll listen to my body this time. Thank you xxx

Well good luck Kat.I have seen fibroids all shapes and sizes,they can be removed,they look like dumplings when they come out.I had to pot them for the lab to check,, they are 99.9%grizzly and fat but none are left unchecked.having cone biopsies are the best way to check any suspicious smears,the testing kit for smears is really super responsive so think positive ..come back and let us know you recover well..

Have you informed the hospital staff of your fibromyalgia? Make sure they are aware. As with most things, it will probably take you longer to get over the procedure than "normal" people. Do not be afraid to ask for extra pain killers if you need them.

I had a day case laparoscopy, but as my temperature went "sky high" after the anaesthetic, they made me stay overnight (probably due to my inability to control my body temperature.. delights of fibromyalgia!!). So maybe be prepared and make arrangements to stay in hospital longer just in case you need to.

I also suffered with strong anxiety feelings the day after the procedure (I can normally keep my anxiety well controlled), so perhaps arrange to have someone( friend, family member) to be with you for a few days after.

I've told the gynaecologist as she's the only person I've seen so far. I also have anxiety but going to stay at dads for a couple of nights then my boyfriend will be here so won't be alone thankfully.

I always prepare for the worst with stays as nothing is guaranteed.
