Do I have fibromyalgia??

how do they test for fibromyalgia? When attending my yearly pain clinic app I was diagnosed with it. It was obvious I suffered with mental health problems due to self harm scars on arms etc n my mood was low because I was experiencing pains in my upper back, neck, shoulder n hip. Most of these pains were relatively new. I thought these pains could be to do with my on going pain of oesteratheritis of which this dr failed to be aware of. He only mentioned my prolapsed disc. He done a "prick" test on certain parts of my body which to be fair I cldent feel on some areas. So as I don't know nothing about fibromyalgia is it possible to diagnose from these symptoms n prick test? Or could it be the atheritis spreading? So confused Cz some days I feel okayish n others I feel like I've been hit by a bus

Hello and welcome, I can only say that my diagnosis came after other things were ruled out, it took several years to get to this point. The test I had was pressure point test. You mention you have several numb areas so it may be worth asking about a nerve conduction test, I have severe nerve damage among other things. Hope you get more answers xxx

First thing you need to do is learn as much as you can about fibro. It is a shocking diagnosis,,so get it explained to you. I take it that you are in a lot of pain. It is never easy to decide what is causing every pain. I can't answer that for you.

I also know how how difficult it is to understand what is causing the pain when you have other possible reasons. You need to find out more about your medical problems. It's your body, so speak to someone who knows your symptoms like your GP. Explain what is worrying you 🐸

Hi Curvycaz

Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

fmauk.org/

I have also pasted you an excerpt and a link from the *NHS Choices cache on Fibro:

*Criteria for diagnosing fibromyalgia

For fibromyalgia to be diagnosed, certain criteria usually have to be met. The most widely used criteria for diagnosis are:

you either have severe pain in three to six different areas of your body, or you have milder pain in seven or more different areas

your symptoms have stayed at a similar level for at least three months

no other reason for your symptoms has been found

The extent of the pain used to be assessed by applying gentle pressure to certain "tender points", where any pain is likely to be at its worst. However, this is less common nowadays.

*Diagnosing other conditions

It's also possible to have other conditions alongside your fibromyalgia, such as:

depression

anxiety

irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

If your symptoms suggest that you have another condition as well as fibromyalgia, you may need further tests to diagnose these. Identifying all possible conditions will help to guide your treatment.

nhs.uk/Conditions/Fibromyal...

I genuinely hope that this helps you a little, and I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

My numbness is mainly in my legs n bottom of feet. But I will read up more on fibro. I've woken up this Mrnin feeling like I've been by a bus. Thank u for ur response

Hello Curvycaz from Nurse Gladys Emanuel (open all hours) to establish if you have fibro it is mostly muscle soreness, fatigue (but that can be caused by meds) inability to sleep through the night, waking up very tired, extreme tiredness trying to climb stairs, unable to think properly(can be fibro fog) the soreness you feel with fibro is around your joints where the muscle tips meet, if you were touched especially at the back muscles it hurts if you itch your skin and its sore after, that's Fibromyalgia, you don't, have to have all these complaints and pains but the most would tell you it is fibro. Hope that helps.
