Hi, newbie here

Hi was diagnosed with fibro last year which came on after a fall at work. Am having to use a stick at the moment cos I'm scared of falling lat on my face when my gammy knee gives way. Now that would be a sight to see!! I've tried all the usual pain meds and now am taking duloxetine daily with tramadol paracetomol and brufen (not all at the same time of course). Bright side is my employer has admitted liability so am waiting for a figure from them. Can't see me retiring on it but it might get my kitchen roof fixed

wecome to the caring sharing site it is nice to discuss things with people who have similar problems i suffer from fibro & other problem as do most of us on this site fibro affects us all in different ways ,we do have a joke or two amusing pictures and posts,you are left with a gammy knee after your fall at least your emplyer has accepted liabilityso you might be able to fix your kitchen roof but not fix your gammy leg .hope you enjoy coming on the site as much as i do hugs.lilian

I personally use a tri-walker when I am out as I also have nerve damage, arthritis, spondylitis, brittle asthma and COPD to go along with my Fibro, so I have real difficulties walking, and I can genuinely understand your fear of falling over.

I genuinely hope that you get a lovely and sizable payout from your employer, as long as it does not affect your employment prospects in any way. I also hope that your pain medications are working well for you? I genuinely look forward to bumping into you around the forum.

Might be worth using some pay out for adaptations. Ideas will come I promise. From Tai chi dvds to heated shoulder pads and chairs that tip you out when you want to get up.

Be very very careful on settling for a low sum . I hope you have a solicitor that specialises in Fibro like Brian Barr solicitors . Before you settle I would ask for a second opinion . They have achieved £1.5 m for a Fibro client who had a lifting injury .

I so agree with what everyone else has said about settling for a low figure - if the injury brought on fibro then than may well be a life sentence and severely affect your future ability to work. Put a price on THAT! Loss of earnings for the rest of your working life? I was able to work for 12 years or so after diagnosis, but eventually had to admit defeat, and this might also be your experience, so get the right solicitor and think hard about the future and what you might need. I know fibro isn't supposed to be a degenerative condition but it is with me, and a lot of other people I've been in contact with. Sorry this sounds so negative but you do need to be careful .....

Hello mum47, Ihope your solicitors are truly on the case for you, just because the employer has admitted liability, does nit mean he will want to part with sutable reconpense. You take some serious drugs for your conditions, and they must require a lot of planning, I Hope you start feeling better in your self, soon, and your knees behave themselves, knees not working properly is scarey and painful, keep posting ttfn
