i have carpal tunnel in both wrists, waking up with numbness and it hurts.. Wat are my options besides surgery?
hi I had CTS in my left wrist and as timE went by it got so that I couldn't do anything with my left hand.,went to gp to ask for op and he said he can give me an injection in the median nerve .had this done couple of weeks ago-no pain whilst doing it-and immediate relief tho at follow up said I might need it again in 6 months -and if That doesn't work -consider an op. HAVE THE INJECTION -WELL WORTH IT.
Hi hotmama1
I am so sorry to read that you are having such problems with Carpel Tunnel Syndrome at this time, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue.
In mild to moderate cases of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), treatments such as wrist splints and corticosteroid injections are often recommended. I do not know if this is something that you would like to discuss with your GP?
I have pasted you the link for NHS Choices Carpel Tunnel Syndrome below:

I genuinely want to wish you all the best of luck with finding the answers that you are looking for?
All my hopes and dreams for you

I had the operation last year too, as splints and injections didn't work. Good result from op on left hand, but something's been left wrong with my right thumb, so more investigations...,

Hi, I had CTS it was getting do BSD that It was causing nerve damage. Surgery was my only option. Had both hands done two months apart and it was the best move. Both hands have recovered well and the feeling us slowly coming back. I was awake during surgery and felt no pain during it. It is done and I wouldn't think twice about doing it again hope this helps
I me had the operation on both wrist ,it was,nt too bad that was 7years ago ,not any trouble since . Good look what ever you decide x
Hi, I had the operation on both of my wrists (at separate times) a few years back now. It has helped so much. I had a local anesthetic, so was able to go home the same day. Again it depends on how much discomfort it is causing you on a daily basis. For me it was not an option, due to the increasing numbness and pain I was having. I hope you find the right choice for you.

I just sleep with the splinty things took time but don't need to use them much now. I must be lucky x
I wasn`t given any options. The Neuro who was doing the tests for Fibro spotted the problem. and within a month my right hand was operated on under local anesthetic. I felt nothing and due to the way they cover you, you can`t see any thing.
I spent my time joking with one of the nurses over his choice of theatre hat.
If and when my left hand needs doing I wont hesitate.to have it done again.
hugs sue
I had surgery about 14 months ago after a nerve conductivity study came back showing I had severe CTS.
I was only given an option of an op. But as it's one of the most common ops performed the waiting lust was very long. So due to the long wait beforehand, the recovery took about a year. I wouldn't say it isn't perfect but a good 90% better than it was.
The op itself is less than five minutes. In fact it look longer to prep me. They used a local anaesthetic which literally only numbed the area that was cut, which was only about 1.5"
All in all, a very quick and simple op. One that will be over before you know it. Just be aware that full recovery can take a while, but there's nothing to be scared of...... I'd rather have the other one done than visit a dentist
Have you tried physio? If you find a good one and do the exercises religiously it can give good pain relief, x
I had both hands oped on 30yrs back best op I have ever had ( i have a few ) almost instant relief , i wouldn't hesitate to have it again .I can still remember the dreadful pain and night after night pacing the floor in pain
I had wax treatments at the physio clinic.
you can get home ones from boots and other such places.
they use low-melting point wax.
you dip your hand in and out, wait, then twice more.
then wrap cling film or plastic bag around/over it, wrap a thick towel around (all loosely) sit comfily, rest hand on pillow and enjoy.
even nicer if somebody there to wrap both hands!
if it's your own unit (& you thoroughly wash hands first) you can put the cold wax back in after you've gently peeled it off.
it eases my pain and my skin feels lovely too
I also use Arnica pure gel and arnica bath soak from qvc - pm me for details.
