Well back on the antidepressants! Mentioned my research into my symptoms and the fact that my mum has fibromyalgia and is hypo and he said he didn't want to issue me with a label! I guess I'm definitely in this fir the long term having replied 'I dint want a label just a solution' I will be back I know it. Only walked the twenty minute journey to the docs and now have pain in my right hip! Looks like the store of naproxen I have Will be taking a bashing!

Dear Missunderstood1,

How frustrating & disappointing! By the way he/she mentions label makes me think they may have a judgement based on their thoughts of Fibromyalgia and/or may think it's psychosomatic hence the antidepressants.

I would suggest discussing your symptoms with another GP, as you need a diagnosis so you can know what is the reason for these symptoms

I wish you well with your journey as I remember the problems I faced personally. Don't give up, be strong

Best Wishes

Emma :)

Sorry to hear that Missunderstood1.

Have you seen there are other communities on HU you can join to talk about Anxiety issues & Depression, if you need to?

We are happy to listen and help as we can but you might find that sharing your experiences in the Anxiety UK or Action on Depression may help too

If you feel you are not getting the NHS Healthcare you feel is appropriate you can talk to the Patient Advice & Liaison Service and/or write a letter to the Practice Manager.

Hope this helps

thank you.sitting in waiting room and watching for my name to come up when a voice behind me said my name-almost leapt out of skin - it was my dr -said computer sign wasnt working -and he waited for me to walk along the corridor and held the door open for me.went ok but wouldn't arrange a scan.still said not thyroid but he wasn't too angry that I got answers from here.asked to see a different rheumy -could not as the other hospital (in Scotland)he said were being a bit funny in accepting patients from England.go private??need to confirm lupus.did say he would arrange a chest xray.my chest sounded ropey and he said there were a lot of infections about.i said ive had this cough fro well over a year.still say abdomen is a cyst or other solid mass.what else would weigh over 11 kgs?

Hi misunderstood, when I was diagnosed my gp put me on antidepressants. She told me that they worked well in managing the symptoms of fibro. The first ones, duloxitine worked well enough that my aches and pains were bearable without pain relief, but did nothing at night for restless legs so I didn't sleep. I am now on amitriptylene and they allow me to get a reasonable nights sleep, but the aches and pains are a lot worse :) halfway ground would be nice. I hope it works for you :)

Thanks tiredalot40 I've been given mirtazapine which I started to take a.month ago but developed a sore throat so was advised to stop until bloods were done, and although I was starting to sleep a little sounder it made no difference to my daytime symptoms! Feel like.I'm back on square one

Its very frustrating, I'm sitting at the minute with my back and legs killing me, my own fault :) but my gp only allows me to take paracetamol so as they say its like an ashtray on a motorbike!!! No use what so ever. Sometimes it makes you wonder what your gp is thinking :)

My gp didn't atempt to diagnose fibro was never mentioned he sent me to a rheumatologist straight away as my joints were so painful and stiffness so bad. They had no trouble with the diagnosis. In fact I had never heard of fibro till I saw them. Could you suggest a second opinion via a rheumy?

Hi teddybear7! Next time I see my gp I'm going armed with as much info as poss! Not sure he'll like me asking for a referral or second opinion but I have to do what's best for me and at the end of the day my body is telling me something ain't right! I don't feel depressed just fed up with how I am.

The one thing no one said yet is anti dpressants work on Fibro as it has an element of neurologial causation. They work for me. So its a double benefit treating 2 coditions with 1 medication. Naproxen is an anti inflammatory (NSAID if I'm not mistaken) and may help arthritic pain too.

I don't take antis they may help sleep but unfortunately I'm one of those that wants to kill the world, throw dishwashers out of the window and wonder what planet I am actually on. Even with tiny doses. So I'm a hot bath, hot water bottle, heat pad and pacing kind of gal. However Naproxen gets me through the really bad disabling type of flare ups thank goodness. You know the ones where you can't even get your own underwear on. Lol. X

Yup. That's a shame but we're all different. There's one on here takea 100mg amitrip (a good abbreviation for it), I'm on 40mg and someone else is 10mg and has side effects too.

How about adding lavender scented pillow ahd Progressive Muscle Relaxation to that mix. Again, it helps some.
