Hi there Sophie, I have only heard of it in respect of being used in childbirth, so it is an effective pain killer. Could you possibly ring the doctor and mention your concern and get some reassurance from him about how it will react perhaps with other things you are taking. Other members here may have more experience of it than I do, but I really hope it helps you :-)

Hi sophie22

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as can be? I am very sorry but I have never heard of this medication. However, I have attached the NHS Nice drugs register page for this medication that has lots of information relating to it. I sincerely hope that you find it useful and good luck with your new medication.

Thank you, I have had a look. It did nothing for me last night, I have been up all night again in agony. So fed up!

Hello Sophie22,

Sorry to hear that this new medication is not helping to relieve your pain, as it is an Opioid it may not be giving pain relief due to the reduced availability of opioid receptors, explaining why opioid medications are less effective in people with Fibro(Lindsey Middlemiss 2009)

I must admit I personally have not come across this medication before and the same as Ken I would like to provide some information for reference;

If you are finding this isn't helping to control your pain I would consider visiting the GP once again, possibly with our printed factsheets about the recommended treatments for Fibro. You may be able to discuss your treatment plan with your GP as an informed patient. Here's the link to the information;

I hope this information is helpful and you find something to ease your pain soon.

Best Wishes

Emma :)

Thank you. unfortunately my GP does not offer me anything other than drugs, I am super sensitive to them, the pain clinic he sent me to was just as unhelpful. there is no where to go for help and I am feeling desperate as I am in so much pain, its been nearly 14years now I have been pushing for some help and banging my head against the brick wall, my GP says it is all in my head.

Hello Sophie,

If you are finding your GP dismissive I would consider seeing another GP or changing to another surgery. I had the same experience and had 2 GP's imply that it was psychosomatic and I am now at another surgery.

On the website we have information about other medications which may suit you that you can discuss with another GP, Have you tried Acupan, for instance?

Acupan (Nefopam Hydrochloride) is a non-opioid analgesic that is used for both the fast treatment of acute pain and the treatment of constant, chronic pain. How Acupan works is not well understood, but inhibition of serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline reuptake is thought to be involved. It is of particular interest for the treatment of Fibro because of its effects on dopamine (Lindsey Middlemiss 2009)

I would consider looking at the website at all the recommended treatments for Fibro and if it's easier you can find them from this FAQ below;

I hope this helps
