After threatening my GP with my MP, the GMC and the head GP over GB, I got duloxetine, I am on my first day of reducing pregabalin... How was it for all those who made the change?

I am interested in the answer to this as well because I am on duloxetine and gabapentin and amitriptyline at night.

Hi. I had to reply to you as was told that I can never take amytriptline with duloxetine and also that I cud not take gabapentin mix. Pregabalin and gabapentin are the same class of drugs for anyone who is interested - initially used for epilepsy. I hope your combination is safe for you and I wud be so fascinated if this was ever mentioned to you. I am off to pain clinic finally- horaah- no date yet, but it could be that you are seeing someone like that who has more experience than a gp who just follows the medical instructions by rote. Please reply as it wud be important to know. Thanks xxxxxxx

I was told the same re amytriptiline and duloxetine but believe it is used together sometimes but think a lot of GPs avoid its combined use

Hello. I have been prescribed duloxetine in the morning and nortriptyline, which is similar to amitriptyline, at night by my GP. She is quite good at mixing as she hasn't given me other med's because they don't mix.

Just remembered the NHS website you can check different med's and any side effects. It says that duloxetine MAY react with amitriptyline and nortriptyline, not that they shouldn't be used together.

I would think it's down to GP to consider any other issues and for patients to report if anything doesn't seem to be right. I haven't had any problems, don't think I have anyway!

Sorry I can't help any more, hope this helps.

It was a GP that prescribed the duloxetine recently, but not my own doctor as he was on holiday. I am seeing my own doctor today as my duloxetine has almost run out so I will let you know what he says. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.

Hi suzy

I thought the same too, however i have a friend who had gullian barre and was in intensive care 4 times age only 21 bless, now they had her on both .

She is now on neither as recovered but not 100% x

It was to do with weakness, which is my issue no strength muscles & ligaments ,

The burning & aching/stinging soooo intense.

I have bhms/eds, cervical spinal cord compression on nerves, (neuropathic pain) IBS , gerd.

Hi Robbie,

Sorry to hear about the reaction to Duloxetine. I don't get a sore mouth but I do get a dry one, although that could be the morphine I am on.

Yes I wondered the same as haribo, pregbalin is a family of gabapentin, and I find gabapentin is brilliant especially for the nerve endings and restless legs... I'd be curiouse to hear how you get on, and wether they help better, do keep us in touch and let us know how u get on, gentle hugs ....Dee xx

I had to give up the Pregabalin before I got Duloxetine.

Pregabalin withdrawal was pretty awful as my doc never told me to cut down - just stop it.

I had a flare a couple of months later after losing my mum. I saw a different doc and was given Duloxetine. Had initial side effects, but have been taking it 8 months now, side effects have gone, and although it doesn't remove the pain, it takes the worst of it away, so I much prefer it.

I would advise taking Duloxetine early in the morning as initially it can keep you awake.

Good luck with it

Em x

Hi, I hope duloxetine works for you. I have been taking it since august and it's been a big mistake for me. I've been so depressed on it. It did very little for my pain. The worse is the depression though, I wasn't depressed before going on it and have never felt so bad in my life. I am back at the doctors on monday to see if she will take me off it. Good luck I hope it works for you. Everybody reacts differently to different drugs so hope it works well for you.

Hi there. I was on duloxetine and didn't think it was doing anything for me and I was depressed and wanted something else for my depression and my gp wud not prescribe another antidepressant whilst I was on it as duloxetine in a different dose is also an antidepressant. Well firstly as I came down off it I realised it had kept the nerve pain at bay - so whilst it did not work at 120mg high than normal does to stop pain it was obviously doing more than I thought. Secondly PLEASE come off any pregabalin, gabapentin and to anyone coming off duloxetine very slowly as I have come off them all over my past and be aware even tapering off duloxetine caused me feelings if flu and confusion once stopped which forced me back on to the duloxetine - though others may be able to tell me through the benefit of their experience if that's just the fibrofog coming back. I wish I knew the answer as I am dragging myself to work in great pain and getting into trouble for being snappy with colleagues and also being off for 4 days as 4 separate days. I have been written up at work even though I declared my FM at the start and 8 mths later despite an Occ Health report they have supplied no comfy chair etc. I had to work as govt said I had to! I wish you luck with duloxetine and taper up slowly and it should help. I also did not have the drunk feelings I had on pregabalin etc. let us know how you get on- I really hope it works for you as we a

Gabapentin and Naproxen have worked real well for me, although I find I am constantly tired all the time nowadays. You could get your and Access to Work involved with you work situation and in getting you appropriate equipment.

Thanks for your reply. I actually work with HR and health and safety so you'd think I'd be sorted. Got a great keyboard but it broke. Finally got a document holder but still wàiting for a footstool and fobbed off again with an in stock chair when assessment gave them other measurements! Wot can you do when they are making the right noises? Will look up access to work- not heard of it but sounds useful. Thanks again for your helpful reply xx

Hi, never taken Duloxetine, but did take pregabalin for a short time, but reacted badly to it. When I stopped the Pregabalin I had very bad withdrawal - as well as the nerve pain, I had severe confusion, disorientation, paranoia and suicidal thoughts. Luckily the worst of the withdrawal lasting a day or two and we are all different, but if possible, I would strongly recommend that you have someone with you if possible during withdrawal - I had my husband with me and combined with telling myself that the thoughts weren't real and just the meds, we got through it! I hope you have a better time xxx

Hi Tibby

I changed from gabapentin and amytriptline to duloxetine and it the best thing I did! You will have side affects. Coming off the tablets all I can remember is the pain! I would suggest that when you first take the duloxetine your at home and don't need to go anywhere. I took my first one in work and had to be taken home due to faintness and general feeling of not being of this world. The side affect lasted a few days but became less each day. The first one was the worst! Best change I ever made. Hope your transition goes well. Take care x

I am taking Duloxetine, Amitriptyline and Pregabalin together, no ill effects. At the moment I am having migraines, so have to see GP to see if anything can help.

suzy1 profile image
suzy1 in reply to deejay

Hi deejay. Just wanted to say that I have had propanalol to prevent migraines- I got very angry and bad sweats and heartburn. So then tried clonidine which I am alright on. However I know it is a herbal remedy , I have found feverfew the best. I take the clonidine from the gp as can't afford to buy herbal tabs all the time but I suspect feverfew is still the best. I then take fewer zolmitriptan for acute attacks. Hope that helps when you see your gp. Good luck xx

I was told today by my GP to increase my duloxetine and decrease my amitriptyline because the amitriptyline is contributing to my weight gain. He had no concerns about me taking both.

Hi its seems a long time since you first took duloxetine and I was wondering how you found it, and if it is better than pregabalin. I am truly in a daze I just want to feel better. Also did your GP tell you why you should not have this medicine.

I really appreciate your help.

Many thanks
