These are lovely - nice work! I bet it is not easy knitting with that yarn, but it looks very effective.

to all who responded to my knitted dogs.will try and answer all your questions /comments .

they are from an old womans realm pattern. i do have the pattern but it is rather tattered. they are actually meant to be Old English Sheepdogs. knitting is easy and the "hair" is strands of yarn pulled thru stitches afterwards.the wool is patons double crepe. when I first made one I used Patons Knit'n'Save wool for economy costwise I could make one back then (1980's)fro £5..taht is no longer made.the first one I made was fro my nieces 3rd birthday.i made one recently using the double crepe and with toy stuffing it cost about £25 to make.thye are about 10" tal land 15"long(I think).it wasn't too difficult as it is knitted in several parts and sewn together afterwards.

Wow anbuma, you have hidden talents haven't you :-) they are absolutely fab :-) I love that you pulled through the yarn to make the shaggy look, wonderful ! Maybe you should have a go at doing , I think they are called Pullies, the dogs with sort of dreadlocks, then you could have great fun twisting bigger bits of yarn through. Do you find knitting relaxing ? I find when I'm attempting my felting that I am so absorbed in it, it helps take my mind off pain etc.!

Well done you :-)

Hi Foggy ihavent knitted fro years as I was doing cross stitch until earlier this year and fibro couldno longer do it,so wenht back to knitting as I can put that down and pick it up again no problem(am currently making prem baby clothes fro hospital)as my hands dont let me do to much at once.do you know of a pattern fro "pullies"?

Fibrofoggiest profile image
Fibrofoggiest in reply toanbuma

sorry, no I don't, but I think if you did the same as you did for your old English ones and then twisted wool tops to make things that look like dreadlocks, and then pulled them through, then it would work, I could make a "dreadlock" thingy and put it up to show you so you could get an idea, but you may find it too hard and I wouldn't want to cause you anymore pain than you already have.

Oh and good on you for making things for the prem babies, that is so lovely, I was a small one myself, 3lbs 4oz but I had a greedy twin who was 6lbs 9oz and he's stayed the biggy all the way through :-) Poor Mummy didn't even realise she was having twin until she'd had me and then they said, I'm sorry there's another one in there...what a shock...that was 50 years ago though so no ultrasound to seek me out :-)

Wow they are lovely and your comments about their source and costs come as a shock. What a shame crafts which are a good outlet for us fibros cost so much nowadays. Still enjoy your skill they are cute.

I wish they still sold Patons knit 'n 'save.it was good quality wool at cheap price and 100grms went a long way.

they are fabulous! :)

I like the jean greenhowe toy patterns, they can be made using oddments of wool. I buy my wool at the market or Sue Ryder charity shop [brand new wool].

Where is the pattern for these? I love them. I have just finished knitting my grandson the Snowman. My friend is knitting the Snow dog to go with him. Its taken me about 5 weeks, can only do a little bit at a time. My hands and fingers cramp and twist making it impossible to do too much.

Are you emailing the pattern to members or have you put it somewhere to view???
