Hi Em, Im on Gabapentin, and have been for years, yes it does makes you put on weight, but not much, I dont like chips biscuits ect and there very few sweets I like, infact i can name you the ones I do like, and they are Ginger sweets from the health shop also Panda liquorice and I dont eat crisps and cakes, not because im worried about weight, I just dont like them, and I guess im more of a savoury person, I drink loads of water and they say you lose weight the more water you drink because it flushes your liver thru and apparantly whatever you eat or drink goes thru your liver first, also Im what you call a grazer, i pick all day long, always have done ,I guess that way that way i dont have big meals,I hope this helps you, Gabapentin and Pregbalin are the same family arent they, im also on Tramadol, co-codamol, and sertralin and according to the leaflet Sertraline makes you put onweight, sorry if I appear to have gone on and on didnt mean to, how long have you been taking pregbalin gentle hugs to you ....Dee x

Hi there Eem,I have been on Gabapentin almost 2 yrs ,yes I have gained some weight but not massively,I also have to take anti depressants that can cause weight gain as I have Bi Polar too,so perhaps its more the combination of the 2 that's put the weight on,I have found Gabapentin to be a beneficial medication,my GP doesn't want me to come off it any time soon, hope this helps xxx

Hi, I'm also on Gabapentin and Tramadol, the Gabapentin put on a little weight but nowhere near what the anti-depressants and steroids did. Thankfully I'm off them now just back to the Gabapentin and Tramadol plus a shed load of others. I lost 3/4 stone after giving up the steroid jabs (they weren't working in the end) and am now on Methotrexate. Can't really drink on it, 4 units a week, ruins your social life. Given up flour based products except for occasional treats (nomore yorkshire puds boohoo or cakes) wasn't really a bread eater anyway and my IBS is much better for it. I do try to drink water as I need to flush my liver and kidneys out due to the Methotrexate. Reading a different website I didn't realised that Fibro gave you sweats, I thought it was the menopause, how dumb am I !!!!

I have been on Gabapentin for years, do not think that made me pile on the pounds I also have steroids in an inhaler plus a lot of other meds for the Fibro, we are all different in how much we put it on, it can just be a combo of meds and how active we are, who knows, I do know I hate the weight gain I have on my new meds :(

Hi Eem, I have been on Pregabalin for a year now, and I have certainly gained weight. I eat really healthily and eat loads of fresh fruit and veg, little indulgences, but nothing frequent. I just dont know where the weight comes from!

I initially gained 2 stone in 6 months, but having been a lot more careful with what I eat, and a bit more exercise I have lost just less than a stone.

Pregabalin and Gabapentin are the same family of meds, but they affect people so differently...

I have really found Pregabalin a miracle drug, so I tolerate the weight gain.

Hope you find your answer.

Thanks very guys for this but of info for I have been battling with my weight and I know that I have not been eating loads but the weight is just piling on. Now I know that the Pregabalin has something to do with it. But it works so well I'm reluctant to change but I feel I may have to.
