Urgent advice on endometriosis and becoming pregnant .....

1st blog for me ... My name is Tracy and me and my husband Ben have been trying two years to conceive a baby with no success ... I have had blood test for fertility testing and all came back fine and Bens sperm test was normal, what does this mean as this was 8 months ago still no success .... Then in November I went for a trans vaginal and ultra sound test it showed that I have endometriosis on or near my left ovary (I had endometriosis 10 years ago twice two operations) .... I had an appointment at the hospital today I was told to do IVF as my age was against me as I'm 40 and 41 in January .... My question is I have endometriosis does this need to be removed before IVF if not would this lessen my chances of conceiving?

Hi Tracy, endometriosis usually reappears months to years after it has been removed. As the endometriosis is on or near your ovary it may have an affect on how your ovary performs during the stimulation process of IVF in terms of potential follicle development. It should not have a negative affect on implantation after embryo transfer. I would suggest you ask your consultants advice on how extensive the endometriosis is before you decide on which route to take.

I would recommend that you also consider using an acupuncturist who specialises in fertility prior to and during any IVF cycle as , in my experience it should help your situation considerably.

Hi Tracey. As the previous answer suggests, endometriosis is well known for returning after treatment. Yes, you need to get referred again in order to see whether this needs dealing with prior to any infertility treatment. As your age dictates, this should be done sooner rather than later to give to the best chance of success.

Thank you very much for your advice it is really appreciated i have to say i am slightly confused about it all... i have a doctors appointment tomorrow to speak about this again my scan results show a heterogeneous mass measuring 36mm x 34mm x 29mm which they say is well defined i cannot believe Milton Keynes hospital will not action this and have sent me directly to look into IVF when clearly from my perspective that having IVF with the endometriosis will not work and would be a waste of money and time until this is removed..

apologies this is just hitting me hard a the moment... i will move forward with this and go to the doctors and see what they have to say...
