Travelling after transfer

Hi,

This is my first IVF abroad and I'm having an egg collection and hopefully fresh day 3 transfer and then flying home. I never completely rested after my other transfers but I'm a bit worried about flying and hanging around in airports and dragging bags around. I'm also travelling by myself How did everyone else handle this?

Thanks

I always travelled home the day after transfer. I had someone with me to lift bags. I got to the airport in plenty of time and chose flights that meant I didn’t have to get up too early or get home too late.

Thanks Doodlebug, I know that lots of people must have been successful after travelling for treatment but it's just the thought that it's added stress for your body.

I don’t think the travelling if it’s only a short journey would be an issue, is only think it would be if travelling is stressful mentally. I’m a confident flyer. The think that did stress me out once was cancelled flights due to snow.

The flying doesn't bother me at all, I quite like it, but it's two flights a 4 and a half hour and a 1 and a half hour and my legs do swell up a bit so it does have an effect on my body, not mentally though!

I only had a 2.5hr flight then 2hr drive. Though my friend had 2 flights of 2,5hrs then less than an hour. If you are abroad I’m not sure what option you have as you can’t wait till after 2ww. Sorry I’m not much help 🙈

Not at all, that's exactly it, unless I want to stay here for another couple of weeks, which I don't, I just have to get on with it and keep sending positive vibes to the embryos!

I fly home from Manchester after egg collection then back for transfer then home to same day. It's about a 50 min flight but a lot of hanging around the airport. Clinic said it's fine to do.

Thanks Greenleaves, I'm sure it is because many people go abroad for treatment but starting all the overthinking now!

Try not to overthink it, you can make it as relaxed as you like. I arrive in plenty of time and just find somewhere to chill out and eat my bodyweight in expensive airport food lol. The time goes quickly people watching xx

I also did all most of this alone which meant I could just suit myself and do my own thing lol xx

Such a good idea! Going abroad means my usual careful diet has fairly much gone completely so I think I'll just give in to it now and hope all my prep eating will carry me through!

Yeah it's so hard to eat healthy away from home especially with all the airport restaurants being fast food etc. Although I don't need an excuse to eat crap. The travel side of things can all add up too with flights, taxis, food, hotel. I found i spent nearly 1k recently on my trips.

It really does all add up, I think I've spent about the same too on travel, it's a lot on top of the cost of treatment.

Hi, I’ve been back and forth to my clinic in Prague for about 5 times and 4transfers.I usually fly day after transfer( the only time I had a BFP was first try but ended in MC)2nd attempt I went on my own and came back transfer day( that was a push 2 hrs flight , 3hrs drive back home😆) ,3rd attempt went with my husband so didn’t have to worry about luggage or driving and 4 th and last one went on my own-had a double transfer to use up all embryo’s as I like Prague but could do with never visiting again, and left 2 days after transfer as had to wfh in between, I am in currently in 2WW , in a very positive mindset waiting for 20th to test).I would wait till day after transfer to travel and try to carry minimum luggage and don’t worry too much if is meant to stick will stick😊good luck x x

Thanks so much, that's a great mindset to have. That's a lot of travelling back and forth for you but absolutely fingers crossed for you for 20th.
